The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Anesthesia is seeking its next talented Communications Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will lead a variety of digital communication projects and social media-related tasks while creating strong content and pitch creative ideas in support of the Department of Anesthesia. This position will exercise strong knowledge and proficient use of social media channels, as well as print, and broadcast. Targeting communications to and building relationships with UIHC Department of Anesthesia team members, recruits, alumni, current and prospective donors; and other external and internal audiences. In addition, they will accurately research, organize and interpret information and exhibit sound judgment as it relates to all forms of communication.


Position responsibilities:

• Propose and implement communication strategies and develop content that best conveys key messages. Insure integration of content across different media platforms. Perform editing, accuracy review and fact checking. Establish baselines and goals for determining the effectiveness of communication plans or channels.
• Know stakeholders and target audiences. Create media relations plan and facilitate relationships with media relations personnel. Act as liaison with UIHC Marketing and Communications in development of marketing materials.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues in the Department of Anesthesia to identify and produce content.
• Assist with Department recruiting activities. Producing digital, and printed advertisements, and flyers.
• Create content and ensure timely delivery of daily, weekly, and ongoing communications f or Anesthesia Intranet, weekly newsletter, digital signage, and social media accounts.
• Develop strategy for our University of Iowa Department of Anesthesia social media accounts including prioritization of topics, stakeholders, and key messages.
• Develop social media content that is aligned with the strategy. Write social media captions, take photos, produce videos, and create graphics. Communicate the brand voice in a coherent and effective manner across all social media platforms.
• Exercise strong knowledge and proficient use of social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
• Schedule posts based on priority level, timeliness, and other determining factors.
• Track, analyze, and report on social media performance metrics.
• Produce and execute planned and unplanned content around events as they happen.
• Stay current on social media too ls, trends, and best practices within the industry
• Ability to work with individuals and groups in a constructive and respectful manner while appreciating the unique contribution of an inclusive workforce that brings together the talents of people across multiple identities (race, creed, color, religion, national origins, age, sex, pregnancy, disability, veteran or military status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or associational preferences).
• Knowledge of event management processes and activities; ability to plan, organize and execute events and to coordinate resources before, during and after an event.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations, marketing, journalism, English, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 6 months professional experience creating social media content across channels for an organization, company or institution.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to write effectively under deadline for a variety of purposes, goals, audiences, and media.
• Proficiency in computer software applications including Microsoft Office
• Experience in computer applications related to development of publications (Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Creative Suite)
• Time management skills, ability to meet deadlines and ability to multi-task


Desired Qualifications

• Experience working in health care.
• Experience using a DSLR camera.
• Experience with video editing software.
• Demonstrated ability to implement a social media strategy.
• Experience gathering and interpreting social media data.
• Demonstrated organizational and collaboration skills.
