Director of Communications and Marketing   (Summary)

Oversee and direct all aspects of St. Mark’s communications and marketing, both internal and external, using multiple methods and platforms including print, digital, website, and social media.

St. Mark's Lutheran Church has over 2000 members and more than 650 attend one of three worship services each week.  Explore our website at:


  1. Develop comprehensive and strategic marketing, branding, and communications plans for the church
  2. Collaborate with the pastors, ministry team leaders, staff, volunteers, partners, suppliers and outside vendors, to develop original, effective, and quality content that is consistent with St. Mark’s branding and its strategic communications and marketing plans
  3. Conceptualize, write, edit, and create effective written and visual materials for print and electronic distribution on a weekly, monthly, annual and special needs basis. Including:
    1. Sermon series graphics
    2. Sunday bulletins, including all inserts; Wedding and funeral bulletins
    3. Monthly Connections print & pdf newsletter
    4. Weekly e-Connections electronic newsletter
    5. Social media posts and messages
    6. Maintain and update the church’s website
    7. Annual Congregational Report
    8. Special bulk mailings & congregation-wide emails
    9. Brochures, posters, announcement slides
    10. Signage
    11. Direct advertising and marketing materials - outdoor, in print, and online
  4. Create visual and written communications to effectively convey St. Mark’s message to both our partners and the community. To accomplish this goal effectively, the coordinator will:
    1. Meet with ministry staff to ascertain needs and cooperatively plan proposed communications
    2. Create, purchase or oversee development of graphic illustrations, designs, and photographs and write compelling text to reflect the desired theme and tone of the communications
    3. Complete projects on schedule. Coordinate with church technical staff and outside graphic designers and printers as needed. Oversee and schedule volunteers to regularly assist with in-house printing and assembling materials
    4. Maintain technical knowledge by attending design and marketing workshops, reviewing peer and professional publications, etc.
  5. Tell the St. Mark’s story and enhance its reputation and image by creating and adapting materials for traditional and new media
  6. Support, document and report on (including photography and prose) St. Mark’s activities that fulfill its mission; and facilitate engagement within St. Mark’s and with the community
  7. Cooperate with technical staff in planning and preparation of presentations for St. Mark’s events
  8. Recruit and lead volunteer teams to assist in planning and producing communications: including topic suggestions, creative ideas, photography, design, printing and mailings
  9. Perform other duties or projects as assigned


  • Degree in communications or marketing related field; with two years of applicable experience.
  • Graphic design skills and experience, demonstrated by a portfolio
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and impactful copy
  • Proven experience in producing informational content for a variety of platforms and audiences
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of both Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign and Photoshop) and Microsoft Office programs
  • Skills on both Mac and PC network platforms
  • Demonstrated leadership and relational skills
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively as both a member of and a leader of teams
  • Be a self-starter and proactive with staff in promoting the use of all types of communications
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience using and maximizing results on various social media platforms
  • Experience using website content management systems
  • Committed Christian with a desire to use communication skills to reach out and share Jesus’ love
  • Personal commitment to growing in faith through Bible study and prayer
