Position Summary:
The Director of Marketing is a senior staff member responsible for developing and implementing strategies that promote a positive brand identity that helps Orchestra Iowa, the Orchestra Iowa School and the Opus Concert Café achieve its event / concert attendance, ticket sales and other earned revenue goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Public Relations & Communications
 Create and reinforce the institution’s “brands” and ensure consistent delivery of message and style
 Oversee the publication of all printed material, as well as the creation of all electronic/broadcast material
 Communicate with a broad range of constituencies including the media, serving as spokesperson for the organization as needed
 Represent Orchestra Iowa at performances, events and in the community
 Oversee the design and functionality of web and social networking sites

Marketing & Sales
 Create and implement subscription, single ticket and special event sales campaigns through direct mail, print and air media, telemarketing, electronic marketing and grassroots efforts
 In collaboration with Institutional Relations Manager, create sponsorship and group packages that develop strong institutional relationships with corporate partners
 Serve as marketing liaison with outside promoters presenting at Opus Concert Café
 Create collateral that increases Opus Concert Café rentals and other use
 Research and recommend appropriate merchandising opportunities
 Conduct patron research, analyze results/trends and prepare recommendations
 In collaboration with School Manager and Community Engagement Manager, create and manage the Orchestra Iowa School marketing plan that increases student enrollment and visibility of programs

Volunteer Constituencies
 Assist with Board and volunteer leadership development
 Work with Board to enlist grassroots, word-of-mouth participation in patron development
 Staff audience development committee and/or task forces; participate in other committee/task force meetings as requested

Administrative
 Assist the CEO, CFO and Board in establishing appropriate ticket sales and event goals; prepare
regular reports and projections
 Serve as part of the senior management team in assisting the CEO in setting and implementing administrative policies
 Negotiate contracts with outside vendors and evaluate their work
 Maintain a master marketing / communications calendar
 Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
 Bachelors degree or equivalent with a minimum of three years of marketing and/or public relations experience
 Prior experience with performing arts and/or events-based marketing preferred
 Excellent verbal and written communication skills
 Extreme attention to detail
 Diplomacy in handling sensitive and confidential information
 Ability to manage multiple projects and personnel, achieving success within a fast-paced work environment
 Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Design Suite and Tessitura (or other CRM database)
 Must be physically fit and able to lift 50lbs, unassisted
 Must have a passion for the performing arts and desire to bring them to Iowa audiences

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary commensurate with experience. Orchestra Iowa provides health insurance, long-term disability, free parking, an employee only 403b retirement program and free tickets to Orchestra Iowa shows.

Founded in 1921, Orchestra Iowa is widely recognized as the state’s premier symphony orchestra. Its 68 professional musicians showcase their artistic excellence through more than 180 classical, ballet, opera, popular, chamber and educational performances each season, many of which are heard on Iowa Public Radio and seen on Iowa Public Television. Orchestra Iowa currently has an annual operating budget of $3 million, operates under a collective bargaining agreement with the American Federation of Musicians and is a member of the League of American Orchestras (Group 3) and the Regional Orchestra Players Association (ROPA).
