Community and Audience Engagement Specialist

Job Summary: 
Responsible for connecting and growing The Gazette’s digital products with our communities. The Community and Audience Manager is focused on digital projects that look to grow and improve the relationships we have with our customers. The role utilizes internal tools, social media, newsletters, analytics, and more to enact and iterate towards positive and sustainable change. This role works as a part of the digital team - curating, creating, and editing content in order to reach collectively identified goals and KPIs in the digital space.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Engage community members through on-going multi-media storytelling, community organizing, and transparent dialogue via a multitude of channels: website, blogs, social media, video, newsletters and events.
  • Co-create, develop and apply new strategies to better serve our current, and potential audiences with our brands and products through all relevant channels.
  • Work with team members to evaluate and assess both the reach of engagement efforts and the company impact of those efforts.
  • Prioritize KPIs, community participation, and ongoing analysis through analytics and relevant tools to solve problems and make improvements to our existing ecosystem.
  • Take an active role in initiatives – including Iowa Ideas – that focus on community growth and engagement.
  • Remains fluent in audience trends of digital consumption and measurement, membership models, and monetization strategy.
  • Develop, package, post, edit and manage content for digital platforms in accordance with identified strategies.
  • Sets annual goals to add or improve skills. Keeps up on current events.  
  • Adheres to all professional and company policies and ethical standards.
  • Maintain site standards, responds to user needs, moderates submitted content in a consistent manner.
  • Is adaptive while on shift to identify in-the-moment adjustments to aid in reaching goals and identified KPIs.

  • Skilled writer and communicator who is well versed in digital storytelling techniques and tools.
  • Superb communication skills; personable and diplomatic in working with diverse constituencies and inspiring participation from co-workers, communities and issue owners.
  • Sees it as first nature to work with a variety of social media tools and creative approaches to community engagement and storytelling.
  • Data driven, and focused on iterative project planning. Able to consume reports as well as provide them to relevant team members with an eye towards consistent, forward change.
  • Comfortable with working in a team setting that requires quick adjustment throughout the day as needs arise.
  • Self-driven and efficacious; entrepreneurial, creative and superb on follow-through and commitment.

Minimum Requirements: 
  • Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field. 
  • Experience in a media and/or marketing environment preferred.
