Marketing Communications Manager

Job Information:

Leading global animal health company Diamond V seeks a Marketing Communications Manager with experience in managing global marketing communications, including the coordination and implementation of advertising campaigns, public relations campaigns, and global business communications for internal and external customers. The ideal candidate for our Cedar Rapids, Iowa based position has a Bachelor or Masters degree in marketing, communications or journalism and a minimum of 8-10 years in marketing communications, including public relations, media management, content generation and digital/social media marketing, preferably in agriculture, food or health industries, or life sciences field.

1.  Education – Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in         
      marketing, communications, or journalism.
2.  Experience – Minimum 8-10 years in marketing 
      communications, including public relations, media 
      management, content generation, and digital/social media 
      marketing, preferably in agriculture, food or health 
      industries, or life sciences field.
3.  Communication skills – ability to communicate effectively in 
      writing, in speech, and in individual and group settings with 
      all staff and throughout all levels of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  Include but are not limited to the following.
1.  Advertising & Media Relations Strategy 
  • Work with internal teams, including Species Marketing Managers and Strategic Communications Manager, to plan and execute media strategies across all communications channels (print, digital, social).
  • Work with Global Business Unit leaders and team members to coordinate regional and local media advertising, brand management, and communications.
  • Maintain existing and grow new business relationships with key industry, business, and targeted consumer media, including digital media.
  • Develop and maintain global media calendars and manage media budgeting and billing.
  • Evaluate opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising on an on-going basis.
     2.  Public Relations Strategy 
  • Work with Strategic Communications Manager and internal teams to develop, execute, and follow up corporate and species-related public relations efforts.
  • Write, edit, and coordinate news releases and general editorial content, and manage distribution and follow-up of public relations efforts.
  • Develop local media relations strategies, seeking placements in print and online media and managing related media inquiries and interview requests.
  • Work with Strategic Communications Manager and team members to seek out and secure opportunities and to position Diamond V in all related trade and industry mediums within trade and consumer-related media.
  • Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts within business and industry media.
  • Monitor, analyze and communicate PR results on a quarterly basis.
  • Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends affecting Diamond V clients and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy surrounding them.

     3.  Global Business Communications 
  • Lead collaboration and coordinate International Business Unit communications efforts.
  • Manage advertising and media relations for international business markets.
  • Leverage brand standards and identity to support global communications efforts.
  • Work with distributor partners to assure each is in compliance with Diamond V co-branding guidelines/trademark usage.

  • Assigned projects reflect quality and are completed according to deadline.
  • Soundness of operational decisions.
  • Effectiveness of working relationships with others in the company including communication, cooperation and team effort.

  • Reports directly to the Director, Global Marketing.
  • Works closely with all sales, marketing, technical and support personnel.
  • Makes contact with customers both internal and external.
Education, Experience and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or journalism or equivalent with emphasis in Marketing and Communications with a minimum of 8 year’s experience or equivalent work experience in similar discipline essential. Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills are essential. Strong interpersonal communication skills are essential. Background in agriculture, food industry, or human health communications is helpful. Ability to work closely with people of different cultures and backgrounds is essential.

Ability to work effectively as a team member is vital. Ability to effectively use current Adobe Creative Suite programs – Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows-based Adobe and MS Office applications is preferable. Experience in mobile-friendly web design and management is preferable. Understanding of corporate communication processes and understanding of sales and marketing processes is desirable. Ability to create, design, and sell ideas is desirable. Planning and project leadership and team building skills are desirable.

Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements:
Must have the ability to use the following office equipment on a daily basis: computer, telephone/voicemail, fax machine, calculator and photocopier. Extensive sedentary work involving sitting at a desk for long periods of time. Walking and standing are required frequently. Duties require depth perception and color vision. High degree of visual concentration required in work processing. Close vision is required. Fine finger movement and hand movement is required for picking, pinching, typing, filing, grasping and feeling. Talking, hearing, reading and writing are required.
