Manufacturing Engineer - Fabrication Buyer

POSITION FUNCTION: Analyze fabricated parts and or weldments that need to be outsourced. Determine if one or several suppliers need to be involved and proceed to obtain quotations and place the order with one supplier or route the part through two or more suppliers. Work with engineering and assembly to optimize methods and reduce cost. Monitor quality improvement with vendors/suppliers and serve as liaison between vendors and Engineering department on new projects. Maintain positive relationship with key suppliers to maximize benefit to Freund-Vector Corporation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Solicit pricing, negotiate purchase price, place purchase order and expedite delivery of assigned categories of parts and/or services.
  2. Source and verify new suppliers for existing parts and/or first-time purchases.
  3. Work with our mechanical engineers and suppliers to research and implement cost reductions and/or cost avoidances.
  4. Monitor supplier quality and on-time delivery and implement improvements as required.
  5. Initiate quotation requests for assigned categories of parts for maintenance of sales cost book.
  6. Get involved in the design of new equipment and major re-designs of existing equipment and provide recommendations for cost effective design and manufacturing methods.
  7. Attend and participate in weekly Production meetings.
  8. Assist in development of yearly budget for Material Group.
  9. Consult with those suppliers having difficulty meeting acceptable quality standards or on time delivery to facilitate the decision to retain or replace with another supplier.
  10. Provide management with reports and information as requested or deemed of interest and value to the Corporation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education – Degree in Industrial Engineering preferred.
  2. Experience – Five years in a machining, sheet metal fabrication, and manufacturing environment required with a preference on stainless steel and metal finishing knowledge.
  3. Special Abilities - Good phone skills required; Computer Program familiarity including but not limited to Microsoft Office products and Auto-Cad; calculator skills; Ability to handle detailed work and high level of accuracy required; Ability and willingness to get along with a number of different personalities, Must be a self starter.
  4. Physical Requirements – Required to sit, stand & walk frequently. Occasionally required to bend, squat, reach, twist and lift or carry 10 lbs. 
  5. Mental Requirements - Good organizational skills; Ability to establish priorities and yet remain flexible; Accuracy.
