Grain Processing Corporation in Muscatine, Iowa has an opening for a Quality Assurance Lead- Quality Systems Support. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the plant’s sanitation program, internal auditing program, and product stability program.  Additional responsibilities include providing technical support to the QA team in regards to Grain Processing Corporation (GPC) and GFSI standards.  This role will provide back-up coverage for designated QA Coordinator positions as needed to support our plant operations teams.  The areas of responsibility for back-up coverage will be determined and directed by the Quality Assurance Manager or Quality Assurance Director.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct Reports:  Muscatine Quality Assurance (QA) Inspectors; also provide direction and guidance for our internal auditing team.


PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Coordinate job duties of QA Inspectors.

•Prepare annual Goals & Objectives for the QA Inspectors, and follow-up with mid-year and year end performance evaluations.  Additional goals and objectives development to support continuous improvement in the functional areas of sanitation, internal auditing, and other key quality systems functions identified through the internal auditing process.

•Primary point person for Internal Auditing planning and scheduling.  Manage the GPC Internal Auditing Program to ensure compliance with GPC and GFSI requirements.

•Recognized as a key resource for the QA team in areas of Quality Systems Compliance in reference to GPC and GSFI (BRC) standards.

•Execute effective auditing systems to measure compliance, and facilitate corrective and preventative actions to address non-compliance issues and drive continuous improvement.

•Attend training as needed, where applicable, to ensure competency in managing internal auditing and master sanitation programs.

•Manage the GPC Master Sanitation Program to ensure compliance with GPC and GFSI requirements.  Routine gap analysis activities along with self-audits should be used to identify improvement opportunities in our Master Sanitation Program.

•Develop and implement key sanitation metrics to provide feedback to operations and quality management teams on sanitation performance.

•Oversee the GPC product stability program.

•As a member of the GPC Quality Team, provide technical support relative to your area of expertise and maintain a good working relationship with plant operations and sales to assist in achieving our quality and food safety goals.

•As a back-up QA Coordinator for other business units, provide support in the following areas at a minimum:

 - Check on lot analyses to ensure they are accurate and complete.

 - Approve and release all final product with proper disposition code to AX.

 - Investigate customer complaints as needed.  

•Provide a weekly report on QA activities to the Quality Assurance Manager or Quality Assurance Director.

•Other duties as assigned by their supervisor.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

•Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field required.

•Minimum 3-5 years food industry or related field experience, specifically in Quality Assurance and/or Quality Systems Management preferred.

•Excellent communication and organizational skills needed to manage multiple priorities and work well in a team based environment.

•Good PC skills with working experience using Word, Excel or other spreadsheet and network experience.

•Excellent data management skills.

 - Work near moving mechanical parts

 - Exposure to fumes/airborne particles

 - Exposure to chemicals

 - Occasional work with lab team members or entry into plant areas that require use of PPE, and short term exposure to high temperature production areas (i.e. dryer areas).
