Manufacturing On-shift Supervisor

Position Purpose: 
Responsible for overseeing daily shift activities at Diamond V South plant and North plant facilities, including Raw Material Receipts, Processing, Packaging, Storage, Shipping, Procurement, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Safety & Health, Integrated Pest Management and Quality. Supports Diamond V’s commitment to product quality, product safety and regulatory compliance by following written and routine standard operating procedures. This includes observing food hygiene, food safety, and cGMP practices when conducting assigned job duties. The Manufacturing On-shift Supervisor is a member of the plant management team, which provides on-site management during daily shift operations.  This is an exempt level position but will be paid on an hourly basis with overtime.
Essential duties: Include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
  • Assess and directs production demands and adjusts production accordingly.
  • Supervises on shift foreman, dryer operators, millhands and maintenance personnel.
  • Communicates regularly with Quality Control and Customer service to ensure quality, accuracy and timeliness of product delivery.
  • Monitors cleaning of warehouse and facility grounds and assigns employees to maintain as needed.
  • Works with internal and external resources to improve continuously the following areas: Compliance, Housekeeping, Integrated Pest Management, Maintenance, Production, Quality, Procurement, and Health & Safety.
  • Keeps Plant Manager and Production Manager informed of all potential problems and/or setbacks.
  • Works with the other members of the Production & Engineering group to institute training and retraining in the following areas: Compliance, Housekeeping, Integrated Pest Management, Maintenance, Production, Quality, Procurement, and Health & Safety.
  • Vacation/PTO coverage will be required when business needs require it.
  • Oversees and manages non-conforming product and product disposition.
  • Oversees all appropriate paperwork is accurately and completely filled in on daily activities to ensure all certification requirements are maintained.
  • Oversees and reviews all internal Bill of Ladings and Receiving documents to ensure of accuracy and delivery to appropriate locations.
  • Assists in the coordination and oversees the site fumigations.
  • Other job related duties as assigned by the Plant manager.

Staffing Relationships:
  • Reports directly to the Plant Manager.
  • Directly supervises the production team.
  • Coordinates closely with the Director of operations, Plant Manager, Production Manager, Maintenance Manager, Manufacturing Engineers, Regulatory, Compliance, Plant personnel, Maintenance personnel, and Laboratory personnel.
  • Has Access to and Knowledge of confidential formulas and processes.
  • Occasionally works with most all other employees. 
This position is located in Cedar Rapids, IA.  Relocation assistance is not provided.

  • Must be able to perform physical job duties including bending/stooping, climbing ladders, open/close valves and work in confined spaces.

  • High School diploma or Equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills.

  • A two year college degree or equivalent combination of education and plant operation experience.
  • Ability to lead and work closely with people.
  • Ability to follow detailed production instructions.
  • Ability to use personal computers and other microprocessor based equipment.
  • Ability to verbally communicate clearly and concisely, make presentations to employees.
  • Ability to write procedures which are clear, correct, concise and consistent.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities and organize work effectively. 
  • Must be a self-starter.
  • Ability to analyze a wide range of intellectual and practical problems, makes logical decisions, carry out decisions made and follow up when appropriate.
  • Ability to accurately apply arithmetic, algebraic and geometric calculations.
  • Moderate mental concentration is required to meet deadlines and work effectively under frequent time pressures and with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to maintain the integrity of confidential business information.
  • This position requires a considerable amount of physical activity including standing, walking, climbing, reaching, squatting, kneeling, bending, sitting, carrying, pushing, pulling, gripping and twisting.
  • Good vision is required in order to take measurements accurately and read detailed printed materials
  • Requires above average intellectual ability and good judgment to deal effectively with a wide range of problem solving and troubleshooting activities.
  • Adequate hearing and speaking abilities are needed to communicate above high noise levels.
  • Hazardous conditions may be present due to proximity to construction activities and heavy equipment.
  • Some exposure to dust and dirt.

  • Forklift certified.
  • Able to operate machinery.
  • Prior experience in feed or production related work.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
