PURPOSE
Responsible for Transportation and Finished Goods Warehouse coordination and training in our high-volume truck and rail facility.  Supports and exemplifies the vision and principles of the Cedar River Mill.
 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The key accountabilities listed below are not to be considered all-inclusive; a team member may be required to perform additional tasks, as directed, and based on changing business needs of the company.
  • Actively support mill safety goals through participation in millwide safety programs and individual safety leadership.
  • Support safe execution in our high-volume environment.  The facility unloads and re-loads 150+ trailers/day, in addition to rail shipping, and carries 400 trailers onsite on a daily basis.
  • Manage on-site contractor spotting service, all inbound and outbound scale processes, and scale contractors.
  • Encourage spotting service engagement and involvement in trailer spotting improvement opportunities.
  • Perform onsite carrier / spotting service incident investigations, develop and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Manage all on-site contract carrier drop trailer lots and the safe movement of trailers throughout the mill site.
  • Process owner of onsite trailer yard management system and inbound raw materials receiving appointment system.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for transportation/warehouse projects and improvements.
  • Understands and meets internal and external customer requirements.
  • Provide customer service support related to product delivery of inbound fiber shipments and outbound roll shipments.
  • Assist Finance Department and Fiber Supply through tracking and verification of inbound fiber deliveries.
  • Provides mill support using product tracking and quality systems to address issues and create process improvements.
  • Maintain Forms, Documents, and Lockout database for Manufacturing Teams
  • Process owner for Shipping document storage on site and off site understanding record retention policies.
  • Provides backup support to quality operations including performance of calibrations and troubleshooting of paper lab testing equipment.
  • Instrumental in leading and assisting with powered industrial truck safety team, powered industrial truck training, and dock safety training programs.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to process team members through daily interactions.
  • Train team members, when necessary, on new methods or procedures.
  • Utilizes Microsoft Office skills to provide in depth data analysis and provide continuous process improvement efforts.
  • Coaches safety to others and leads by example.
  • Develops, maintains, and uses reliable methods for all processes and their improvements.
  • Assists other team members in the mill, as necessary, to minimize downtime and maintain quality.
  • Fullfill area specific 5S expectations (5 minute 5S checklists, replenishment of tools and supplies, 5S audits, etc)
  • Develop cross functional process skills to assist in other areas within the Logistics and Quality Team, as needed.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Must be able to wear all required safety equipment.
  • Noise levels in excess of 90 dB.
  • Heat in excess of 100°F occasionally.
  • Required to walk and stand for long durations.
  • Work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Work as part of a weekend/holiday duty rotation.
  • Working environment is 24/7—ability to be on-call as needed and/or required.
 
KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE 
Minimum 
  • BS Degree in Logistics or equivalent experience
  • Involved customer service experience such as direct interaction with customers and/or truck carriers.
  • Use of positive communication skills to work through issues (i.e. negotiation skills, positive conflict resolution skills, problem solving).
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize workload
  • Good organizational and planning skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
  • Must be self-directed in daily work.
Preferred 
  • Two to three years experience in transportation or logistical functions.
  • Experience in a team-based, customer and quality-focused organization.
  • Knowledge of paper mill safety practices with a good safety record.
  • Advanced SAP and PPR (warehouse management / manufacturing execution software) experience.
  • Shipping, Warehouse and Operations Knowledge
  • Knowledge of DOT and AAR standards.
  • Demonstrated a thorough understanding of dock safety.
  • Experience working with truck / rail transportation carriers.
  • Experience working with railcars / trailers.
  • Experience in high performance work systems.
  • Yard Management process and software experience.
  • Scale Management process and software experience.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to grow with the operation as duties expand or change.
  • Lean Six Sigma / Operational Excellence Training.
