As a part of our succession planning process, the Energy Services Assistant Manager role has been created as a temporary position to allow for a period of time to transfer critical knowledge and skills from our Energy Services Manager. It is the intent that the candidate selected for the Assistant Manager role is the successor for the Energy Services Manager position. Typical Responsibilities Include:

  • Assists the Energy Services Manager in overseeing the day to day operations of the Energy Services Department by providing direction and delegating work to team members, evaluating work performance and providing input on staffing decisions.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates and revises Commercial and Industrial (C&I) energy programs ensuring programs have a positive impact on customer engagement and participation.
  • Advises commercial and industrial customers on opportunities to improve energy efficiency through consulting directly with the customer.
  • Conducts audits by consulting with customers on-site, monitoring and analyzing energy consumption data and designing mechanical commissioning programs for larger commercial and industrial facilities based on the energy needs of the customer.
  • Assists customers in the completion of sales tax exemption studies.
  • Performs plan reviews for new industrial and commercial large, multi-family facilities for compliance with the federal and state laws or adherence to approved specifications. Examples include 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) or ASHRAE 90.1.
  • Develops good working relationships with developers and designers by establishing trust, interpreting data and making constructive suggestions on ways to improve building procedures and designs.
  • Assists with developing workforce plans with staffing and resources necessary to meet departmental goals and objectives.
  • Promotes awareness of energy management initiatives and presents information both written or orally to wide range of audiences in difference settings such as Board of Trustees meetings, conferences and seminars.
  • Manages third-party vendors including identifying when it’s cost effective and necessary to utilize an outside party, solicits proposals, evaluates and recommends vendors, negotiates agreements and maintains good vendor relations.
  • Calculates the loss and heat gains for commercial and residential customers using load calculation software as needed.



Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably mechanical, electrical, energy or environmental. One of the following certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), AHRAE, IECC or Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP) would be preferred.

Experience: Four to Five years of work experience in the energy engineering involved with commercial and industrial programs. Prior experience in a supervisory capacity providing direction to others is preferred.

Knowledge: IECC (International Energy Conservation Code),ASHRAE 90.1 Standards, mechanical commissioning, construction techniques and building science related to energy efficiency, load calculation software (Right-Suite Universal), utility rates and computer software applications.
