Essential Duties, Critical Success Factors, Responsibilities, Authorities and Required Interactions:

The IDT General Counsel leads the IDT legal and compliance team. The IDT General Counsel is responsible for providing global leadership of the legal and compliance function which includes all traditional legal areas, as well as anti-bribery and corruption compliance, intellectual property, data privacy and trade compliance. The General Counsel advises senior leadership on a wide variety of legal, regulatory, compliance, and business matters globally.  The diverse and inclusive team of legal and intellectual property professionals in the US, Europe and Asia supports a wide variety of legal matters such as intellectual property, data privacy, deal diligence, strategic contracts, litigation management, corporate governance as well as routine legal and compliance operations. The General Counsel reports to the General Counsel of the Life Sciences Platform, with a dotted line reporting relationship to the President of IDT. You will be part of a team of GCs within the Life Sciences Platform and across other Danaher operating companies. Build collaborative relationships to bring to bear standard methodologies, lessons learned and avoid waste/duplication.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (up to approx. 30%) and to coordinate schedules to accommodate global meetings and calls required.


  • Broad legal experience (international and across all dimensions of the function: commercial, IP/open innovation, data privacy, trade, anti-bribery and corruption, fda/regulatory) at a senior/strategy level within a multinational organization
  • Develop and implement legal strategy on high risk and/or high value matters as well as routine legal operations
  • Proven business partner to executives (operates as senior leadership team member with subject matter expertise in legal/compliance) effectively advising on go to market practices to drive growth and mitigate risk
  • Strong budget management, including forecast accuracy and judicious use of outside counsel and other third party resources.
  • Develop appropriate approaches to litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution; providing regular, clear communication on litigation issues and opportunities to the president and the leadership team as well as the Life Science Platform General Counsel’s office
  • Assess risk related to mergers & acquisitions strategy from due diligence to post-close integration
  • Lead compliance program including risk assessment and appropriate countermeasures, training and communications and lead efforts to strengthen the IDT compliance culture
  • Develop appropriate IP strategy to maximize competitive advantage.

  • High integrity and ethics in all dealings – internal, external, and personal; non-political in conduct, while understanding internal and external political dynamics
  • Able to command the respect of, and influence, business leaders, peers, team and outside counsel across a wide spectrum of experience and sophistication 
  • Committed to cross functional team work to drive to root cause
  • Process improvement approach with critical focus on recognizing commonalities, reducing waste within the OpCo and with a view towards improving the Platform Legal function structure.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • A law degree from a U.S. accredited law school
  • 12-15 years of experience (top tier law firm and in house within life sciences)
  • In house at a senior and strategic level in a multinational organization, preferably with a matrix structure
  • People leader experience, preferably with remote management responsibilities
  • Direct responsibility for region(s) outside the US required, foreign language capability a plus
  • Med-device or pharma industry a plus, but not required
