The University of Iowa Engineering Coordinator position located within the Department of Public Safety’s Key & Access Services division will manage installation and integration projects for security management systems on campus, primarily using hardware specification software tools as well as video surveillance, electronic access and intrusion detection systems. This critical position will work with campus stakeholders to determine and implement hardware specification software, surveillance, electronic access and intrusion detection systems, including camera locations, sensor locations and software access rights, and provide training on software systems.

Duties to Include:

  • Project management/coordination with capital projects on intrusion detection and video surveillance system projects.
  • Develop specifications, review blueprints, and inspect work to confirm it meets University requirements.
  • Identify/implement improvements to intrusion detection and video surveillance systems. Review and analyze the specifications of new hardware and software products and their compatibility with the existing operating environment.
  • Work with stakeholders on Openings Studio, Simple K, AMAG and Milestone systems administration and compliance.
  • Work with PDC & customers on capital construction and renovation projects involving intrusion detection and video management.
  • Daily support of Openings Studio Hardware Specification Management system – handling requests, troubleshooting problems, adding/ deletion of users.
  • Configuration and support of Video Smart Walls and client hardware.
  • Daily support of AMAG and intrusion detection system.
  • Support for client hardware and configuration of client workstations.
  • Conduct training on the design and operation of security management systems.

Location: University Capitol Centre

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Pay: $54,000 to commensurate

About Key & Access Services:

The Key Services Shop is responsible for the security of all building doors, safes, vaults, files and locking devices, and grand master key systems through installation, maintenance and repair of a wide range of locking mechanisms and related hardware.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience (typically 1 year) with building security systems (door access or video management system).
  • Must be proficient in computer software applications such as Microsoft Office- Outlook, Excel, Word, Access
  • Demonstrated customer service experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience creating and delivering training

Special Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain University Driving Policy standards.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Milestone or other video surveillance hardware and software systems.
  • Experience with AMAG or other electronic door access software systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of application installations, migrations, configurations, upgrades, support, troubleshooting.
  • Vendor relations and vendor project management in a mission critical environment.
  • Experience with enterprise level systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the following programs SQL; XML; CMMS software; web software; and/or keying software.
  • Ability to train users in applications and operating system fundamentals.
