Jail Alternatives Liaison

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking a Jail Alternatives Liaison to serve as a member of the Jail Alternatives Program to assess, diagnose, develop treatment plans, monitor, refer and evaluate services for individuals with mental illness and co-occurring disorders who come into contact with the criminal justice system. This position will work with jail staff, courts, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and others to divert persons in the jail to appropriate community-based treatment. As the liaison between the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and CommUnity Crisis Services, this position will ensure effective service delivery to clients and provide on-site crisis intervention services to individuals in mental health or behavioral health crisis in the community.

Master’s degree in clinical social work, clinical psychology, or mental health counseling AND a minimum of one year of experience in mental health, preferably in jail diversion or crisis intervention OR any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Substance abuse background training is preferred.

Special requirements:

  • Must pass background investigation.
  • Licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), licensed master social worker (LMSW) or licensed as an independent social worker (LISW).
  • Valid driver's license and insurable under county liability coverage.
  • May require use of personal vehicle for county business.

Starting wage is $64,416.80 - $77,300.17 annually plus outstanding benefits.
