Job Information:

Full-time Application Developer – The University of Iowa-College of Dentistry. This positions is responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, and support of programmatic solutions. These solutions may include custom designed and developed applications or installed commercial applications. Architecture, design, and development of web applications are included. Incumbents at this level may plan, design, and analyze customer requests and requirements for the implementation, development, and/or support of application systems. Primary focus: Support the College of Dentistry’s Oral Health Information System (OHIS), including all software applications (clinical information system, digital radiography, electronic health record, digital dentistry), all hardware (computers, peripherals, sensors), and report creation and maintenance.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or equivalent field, or an equivalent combination education/progressively responsible work experience; and
  • 3-5 years’ experience supporting enterprise level vended and/or custom developed applications, including the following skillsets:
  • implementing, supporting, troubleshooting, training users and maintaining enterprise level software applications, including management of user accounts, security, application functionality, and end user workflow documentation.
  • using object-oriented languages (C#, .NET, Java, etc.) to develop and implement applications and processes that integrate vended and custom developed software.
  • Oracle or SQL server database design, stored procedures, functions, triggers and writing complex queries to extract data from a RDMS.
  • Extensive knowledge of Crystal Reports or other report writing and data analysis tools.
  • A proven track-record of initiating, managing, and completing technology projects including user training, both one-on-one and in group environments.
  • providing computer system and application security using best practice concepts and techniques.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing, with technical and non-technical staff.
  • Excellent customer service, project management and organizational skills.

  • Experience working in a healthcare or health related industry.
  • Demonstrated skills with Microsoft Office applications and Windows desktop operating systems.
  • Experience with web design and development.
  • Experience troubleshooting computer hardware, software and peripherals.
