SUMMARY:  This position provides support for planning, organizing, supervising, and directing volunteers associated with Meals on Wheels of Johnson County.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Responsible for: 

  1. Supporting the recruitment of Horizons’ volunteers. 
  2. Building relationships with local civic, business, and service partner organizations to develop and/or utilize volunteers. 
  3. Following onboarding procedures for volunteers in conjunction with best practices. 
  4. Maintaining records on all volunteers. 
  5. Effectively communicating with volunteers.  
  6. Reporting to staff on volunteer activities as needed. 
  7. Developing ongoing volunteer utilization opportunities. 
  8. Serving as a liaison between Horizons and volunteers. 
  9. Assisting in creation of volunteer recruitment materials. 
  10. Maintaining volunteer engagement. 
  11. Maintaining More Than a Meal data. 
  12. Managing assigned agency special event planning and implementation. 
  13. Delivering Meals on Wheels’ meals as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

An Associate’s degree or related experience in coordinating and supporting volunteers. Must be proficient with computers and Microsoft.  

SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS: 

This position has no direct staff supervisory responsibilities, but does supervise volunteers. 

HOURS AND SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS: 

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required to support volunteer recruitment and/or events. 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, detail oriented, and organized. Must possess the ability to maintain a positive consistent attitude in working with volunteers, staff, and clients.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Must provide vehicle for own transportation. 
  2. Must possess a valid Iowa driver’s license. 
  3. Must possess valid auto insurance. 
  4. Must supply all needed records 
  5. Must be able to pass a criminal history and child and dependent adult abuse background check. 
  6. Must be able to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds.
