Whether you help provide emergency shelter, support your colleagues with daily operations, assist shelter guests with finding and financing an apartment when they leave shelter, help clients find jobs, or provide support to individuals who left the streets after experiencing chronic homelessness and are now tenants in a supported apartment, your work advances the lives of people in crisis.

Every time you clock in, you save a life. Not many jobs carry that level of import, but when you keep folks out of the bitter cold all winter long, you will see how true it is. As Winter Shelter Coordinator, you are the first person guests see when they walk out of the freezing Iowa winter and into the warmth of shelter. You will connect guests to the help they need and trouble-shoot when they need assistance find coats, connecting to a case manager, or anything else that might come up. 

Key responsibilities: 

  1.  Provide direct support services that are high quality, consistent and in accordance with the Shelter House mission, vision, and values to the people we serve.
  2. Intervene and appropriately de-escalate crisis situations while providing oversight and supervision so that a safe and healthy environment is maintained at all times.
  3. Work within a team of coordinators and case managers to ensure continuity of care, this includes attending team and agency-wide meetings and trainings.
  4. Record and maintain accurate documentation in a timely manner.
  5. Ensure that individual rights are protected, all services are confidential, and no information is shared without consent.

Reports to: Permanent Supportive Housing Program manager or Emergency Service manager

Job Benefits:

This role eligible for a shift differential rate of $1.50/hr over the base rate for Overnight shifts. The expected payrate for this position is $15/hr.
