Trees Forever

The Development Associate contributes to Trees Forever’s success through fundraising, donor stewardship and board and trustee engagement. You’ll work closely with both the CEO and Director of Development to provide operational support. The ideal candidate for this role is motivated by the big picture vision but loves to fine-tune the details to achieve results.

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Development Support (90%) reporting to Director of Development

  • Assist with creating and implementing the annual development plan that includes a range of strategies, including annual appeals, corporate and individual appeals, campaigns and special events.
  • Produce and implement annual fund and special appeal campaigns and other fundraising communications and strategies.
  • Work with colleagues to manage and segment lists for mailings, invitations and other direct mail and digital campaign projects.
  • Assist in creating and implementing cultivation, stewardship, and recognition programs for donors. Assist in sending periodic notes, scheduling phone calls, and meetings, and reminding other staff and board members with stewardship roles.
  • Help execute special events, including donor cultivation events, memorial planting, annual symposium and other events.
  • Prepare materials for prospect and donor meetings.
  • Record donations in the donor database and generate timely thank you letters. Gifts may include direct mail, online gifts, matching gifts, wires, stock gifts, pledges and in-kind donations. Design and run reports and lead database maintenance and improvements.
  • Assist tracking corporate and foundation grant application pipeline.
  • Schedule meetings and assist with CEO and Director of Development calendars as needed.
  • Create accurate reports for annual report and board meetings; track effectiveness and ROI of appeals.
  • Schedule, attend and record minutes from Development Committee meetings.
  • Uphold the highest ethical and confidentiality standards when processing gifts, payments, and constituent personal information.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement and documentation of processes, policies
  • and procedures.
  • Perform tasks not explicitly described above including other assignments as requested.

Board and Foundation Support (10%) reporting to Trees Forever President and CEO

  • Provide administrative support to the Trees Forever Board and Foundation
  • Schedule, coordinate and provide notification of meetings and events
  • Attend meetings, record minutes and distribute to Board
  • Prepare board packets, if help is needed
  • Assist with events that involve Board and Trustees.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A highly motivated self-starter with interest and desire to become an effective development professional.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or comparable experience.
  • 1-3 years of related experience in sales or nonprofit fundraising.
  • Experience using donor databases, CRM systems and email marketing platforms.
  • Outstanding written, oral and interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiasm for the position and the Trees Forever mission and willingness to pitch in.
  • A can-do attitude and willingness to go the extra mile to serve our donors and mission.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills managing multiple projects with varying priorities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Must possess the following skills:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using contact management and database systems.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with ability to compose correspondence and other documents required as part of duties listed above.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to build effective relationships with staff members, board members, volunteers, donors and members.
  • Strong leadership traits, such as ability to give/receive constructive feedback, critical thinking skills and confidence in taking initiative.
  • Residence in Linn County preferable or within 30 miles of Cedar Rapids/Marion.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and ability to maintain reliable transportation and willingness to travel, including occasional overnight trips and some evening and weekend meetings.
Job Benefits:

Salary Range: $37,000 – $43,000 - Dependent on qualifications and experience

11 Paid Holidays. 18 days PTO for first year and up to 30 days by year 5.
