Young Parent Program Family Support Worker

Basic Functions and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Young Parent Program Coordinator, provide in-home individual and family counseling, parent skills training, advocacy, and case management, while promoting positive techniques that enhance the family life of clients through a strength-based approach.

Characteristic Duties:

  1. Provide individual and family counseling and support to a caseload of 15-20 pregnant and parenting young families.
  2. Provide age appropriate information on child development and positive discipline techniques while assisting young families in identifying how to adequately incorporate this information into the parenting of their children. 
  3. Assist pregnant and parenting young families in accessing other community resources by making appropriate referrals, networking and advocating on their behalf, and providing transportation if necessary.
  4. Assist families in identifying any barriers to completing their education or obtaining employment and provide families with assistance in overcoming such barriers (this may include transportation, child care, financial difficulties, etc)
  5. Co-facilitate a support group for young parents.
  6. Maintain case files, completing required paperwork, case notes, and reports in a timely fashion.
  7. Work within a team approach collaborating with the Young Parent Program staff and other UAY staff, through participation in weekly staff meetings, case management meetings and consultation with staff.

Related Duties:

  1. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
  2. Develop and maintain knowledge of resources, services, and opportunities available to youth and families.


Minimum of a Bachelors degree in human services, counseling or related education and 3 year prior experience working with youth or in a youth services setting. Additional consideration for those with Masters level education in human services, social work, counseling or related field or 5 year’s prior experience; also persons who are bi-lingual in Spanish, French, and/or English.

Valid Driver's License is required.


Full time position. $32,000 to $35,000 starting salary, plus benefits that include health insurance, flex spending, life/disability, paid time off, holidays, wellness program and retirement.

It is our priority to keep ourselves, our clients, and our community as safe as possible during this time. Currently our office is only open to staff, not clients. Virtual programming will continue.

·       Individual office doors should remain closed while occupied.

·       Masks are to be worn in all communal settings and in-person meetings, while also adhering to the 6-foot rule of social distancing.

·       Staff should wash hands regularly and should avoid excessive touching of communal surfaces if possible.

·       All staff will be given hand sanitizer for their desk. Traveling staff will also have travel size bottles. We have a refill jug of hand sanitizer, please keep empty bottles to be refilled.

·       Staff should remember to also sanitize your own desks, equipment and office areas on a regular basis (at least daily) to prevent spread of germs.
