Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking a full-time Clerk III to serve as receptionist for walk-in traffic, respond to customers’ inquiries, issue permits, and provide general office support for the Records Division.
Knowledge of:
    • Mathematical computations
    • Current office procedures and practices
    • English language to include grammar, sentence structure, spelling, and punctuation
  • Ability to:
    • Learn and interpret readily and thoroughly phases of departmental operations
    • Represent Johnson County and perform duties in a professional, responsible and trustworthy manner
    • Perform clerical tasks with a moderate degree of speed and accuracy
    • Maintain confidentiality and security of information as appropriate
    • Make decisions requiring interpretation and judgment
    • Provide customer service that is courteous and responsive
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, officials, and members of the public
    • Interact effectively with persons representing widely divergent backgrounds, interests, and points of view
    • Follow oral and written instructions
    • Collect data, keep accurate records, and prepare reports
    • Make bookkeeping entries and complete business forms
    • Review and interpret documents for accuracy and completeness
    • Be detail-oriented when working with documents and information
    • Operate common office equipment such as typewriters, calculators, cash registers, fax and postage machines, photocopiers, multi-line telephones, scanners, and microfiche printers/readers
    • Type 45 wpm accurately and use a computer for the purposes of data entry, word processing, spreadsheets and e-mail
    • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks
    • Handle low to moderate levels of stress, meet deadlines and solve problems appropriate to the position
    • Have clarity of speech and hearing which permits effective communication
    • Have sufficient vision which permits moderate production and review of a wide variety of materials in both electronic and hardcopy forms
    • Have sufficient manual dexterity to make handwritten notations and which permits moderate use of a keyboard and mouse
    • Lift and/or move up to 35 pounds as needed
    • Stand, sit, squat, kneel, bend, twist, reach, and use a step stool as needed
    • Work occasional overtime as needed
Qualified applicants will have excellent customer service and clerical skills, be detail-oriented, and able to type 45 wpm. High school graduate (or equivalent) AND one (1) year of clerical work experience OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Law enforcement experience preferred.

Special requirements: Must pass back ground check. Ability to pass the National Crime Information Center Certification within 6 months of hire required.
