Kids on Course is a non-profit program of the Zach Johnson Foundation. Its aim is to put all children it serves on a path to college. Kids on Course starts serving students at high-needs schools in the summer before first grade and stays with them until after high school graduation. Children in the program attend tutoring, receive support from a consistent mentor, and have access to extra-curricular opportunities. Everything Kids on Course offers is free to children and their families. Children who are in the program are more likely to do well in school, even though they’re more likely to live in or near poverty. Kids on Course works closely with school staff and leaders in the Cedar Rapids community to meet the diverse needs of young people. The Program Director for Kids on Course will lead the team members who work out of eight different schools and serve more than 1,000 children a year. The ideal candidate will be experienced in managing dynamic teams in high stakes environments. Recommendations should exemplify the person’s energy, persistence, initiative, organizational skills and ability to inspire others to follow his or her lead. Experience working in schools is recommended, but not required.
Requirements: 
  • Four year degree
  • 5+ years of experience in leading teams
  • Excellent relationship with schools in the area

Job Duties:
  • Grow employees to be leaders and experts in executing mission
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Kids on Course and its full time staff, part time staff and independent contractors
  • Set employee performance goals and ensure consistent performance toward goals
  • Develop, seek out and implement training and development opportunities for staff
  • Ensure KOC activities align with purpose and mission
  • Work closely with school and district staff to ensure program is aligned with educational goals and expectations
  • Approve and manage expenses for KOC budget, including adherence to and development of an annual budget
  • Represent Kids on Course with stakeholders including district staff and donors
  • Assist with special events throughout the year including, but not limited to, the Zach Johnson Foundation Classic and Kids on Course Classic

  • Staff will grow in their roles and become leaders in their teams, schools and communities

Job Description:
  • Reports to: Kids on Course Program Leader
  • Direct Reports: Kids on Course staff (four Elementary School Site Managers, two Middle School Site Managers, one High School Site Manager/Program Director, one Latino Family Liaison)
  • Indirect Reports: 4+ Part time staff and 100+ independent contractors who report to Site Managers
  • Daily job responsibilities:
    • Respond to emerging needs, questions and opportunities with KOC staff
    • Supervise KOC programming in action, provide follow up
    • Ensure policies and practices are followed, and created or refined as needed
    • Communicate with Kids on Course Program Leader
  • Weekly job responsibilities:
    • Participate in and possibly lead weekly team meetings
    • Participate in and often lead meetings at schools with staff and principals
    • Participate in and possibly lead focus meetings with the elementary, middle or high school team
    • Ensure staff is well supported and able to reach goals, with frequent feedback and guidance
    • Communicate with Zach Johnson Foundation Executive Director
    • Compile list of checks to be written with documentation
  • Monthly job responsibilities:
    • Participate in and possibly lead monthly strategic meetings with full KOC/ZJF team
    • Ensure blogs, monthly principal updates and other reports are well crafted in on deadline
    • Measure KOC activities against impact with measurable and anecdotal evidence
    • Communicate with Zach Johnson Foundation board members
    • Approve KOC staff expenses through Expensify
  • Other job responsibilities:
    • Share story of program with outside group or entity
    • Participate in trainings to grow skills and perspective
    • Participate in community events to stay current and connected
