Youth Counselors

Job Information:

Four Oaks is currently hiring Youth Counselor’s for multiple full-time and part-time openings in Cedar Rapids, Marion, and Iowa City!  Prior experience is preferred but not required.  Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a High school diploma or GED.

As a Youth Counselor you will be responsible for assessing client’s interactions on location, providing direct care service and evaluating the progress of these treatment goals.

Responsibilities: 
  • Provide consistent, individualized reinforcement to client behavior, using daily issues to teach and reinforce adaptive behaviors.
  • Utilize a proactive/preventive method of intercepting problems to neutralize them before they escalate.
  • Assist clients in developing insight into their behaviors so that they learn to self-identify and self correct.
  • Understand the impact of client’s behaviors on their own actions/reactions in the workplace and utilizes team feedback to enhance the effectiveness of their interventions.
  • Provide daily living supervision and treatment intervention.
  • Establish a therapeutic relationship with the client based on trust & respect.
  • Evaluate the impact of behavioral, group treatment, and life-space interventions and provides direction/feedback.
  • Assure consistent, ongoing, and timely provision for basic client needs.
  • Follow medication management guidelines.
  • Effectively participate in team to review case progress and provide best programming.

About the Psychiatric Medical Institute for Children (PMIC) 
The Psychiatric Medical Institute for Children (PMIC) is designed especially for children between the ages of 5 and 13 in the Mason City Program who present serious emotional and behavioral problems. The basic foundation of this program is designed to develop positive self-concepts, social and problem-solving skills while integrating child and family treatment components.

About the Comprehensive and Enhanced Residential Treatment Program (RT)
Residential treatment services are designed for youth with a variety of needs. These program focuses on the family-based approach, partnering with families in teaching cognitive self-control, personal coping skills, behavioral interventions, living skills accountability, and self-responsibility. Enhanced programs are tailored to each youth’s specific needs.

About the Sexual Abuse Treatment and Re-Orientation Program (STOP)
STOP serves adolescent males who have sexual behavior problems in an enhanced residential treatment facility and in their community-based out-patient program. Components of treatment include individual and family therapy, individual core counseling, and group skill training.
