Volunteer Manager

Job Information:

Full-time position – Starting salary $31,000 to commensurate, plus benefits that include health insurance, flex spending, life/disability, paid vacation, holidays, sick leave, wellness program and retirement.
 
Basic Function and Responsibility:
Under the supervision of the Youth Services Team, develops, implements, and manages volunteer related activities at UAY. The major focus of the position is the recruitment, training, supervision, evaluation, and support of adult and youth volunteers.

Characteristic Duties:
  1. Recruit, interview, and screen potential volunteers to UAY programs.
  2. Organize, implement, and evaluate a training program to teach agency policies, procedures, and interpersonal skills. Develop and maintain a training manual for adult and youth volunteers.
  3. Coordinate with UAY staff to assign volunteers to appropriate tasks or programs, including support and mentor positions to aid victims of crime and abuse.
  4. Continue to develop projects for youth and adult volunteers that foster positive youth development opportunities and incorporate Youth Center clients, at-risk youth and victims of crime and abuse into the pool of trained volunteers.
  5. Develop and implement community education programs, educating adult community members about the principles of youth development.
  6. Coordination of childcare activities, including supervision of volunteers and work-study students. Provide nurturing care and supervision to infants and toddlers while their mothers attend group programming.
  7. Prepare annual and periodic program summaries and reports and suggest program objectives.
  8. Maintain volunteer database and other appropriate records.
 
Related Duties:
  • Maintain positive relationships with other volunteer coordinators in the community and represent UAY in volunteer networks and at meetings related to volunteers. Coordinate with University of Iowa departments and other educational entities to arrange internships, field placements, and practicum sites at UAY
  • Create and maintain advertisements for volunteers and other public relations on behalf of UAY volunteer programs.
  • Oversee the IDPH Youth Development Grant goals and objectives and report submission. This includes overseeing the Youth Action Team.
  • Maintain Volunteer Service Descriptions for each volunteer assignment.
  • Ensure volunteers are staffed to support the various areas of operations, special events, development initiatives, and program services.
  • Manage volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service.
  •  Solicit feedback from staff on volunteer performance and provide evaluation input for volunteers.
  • Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events
  • Evaluate all aspects of volunteer programs to ensure effectiveness and to recommend/implement changes as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation.
  • Host and attend recruiting events within the community to attract qualified candidates.
  • Work with UAY development staff, community professional associations, and community business partners to publicize opportunities for volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other volunteer organizations within the area.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers.
  • Confer with volunteers to resolve grievances and promote a UPR environment.
  • Create and distribute a quarterly narrative summarizing volunteer success stories and impact.
  • Actively participate in Youth Service, Teen Parent, and All Staff meetings and functions.

Must have a valid driver’s license.
