Recruiting Assistant

Job Information:

This position supports Mercy’s philosophy of patient centered care by assisting in the recruitment process and ensuring highest quality of all candidates experience for all internal and external applicants. This position will present new hire orientation, screen applicants and schedule interviews, and perform pre-employment verifications to assist in compliance.

Job Specific Duties/Essential Functions
  • Prepares necessary recruiting documents, verifications, screenings and testing.
  • Conducts new hire orientation sessions.
  • Schedules and conducts in person and telephone interviews to effectively screen candidates.
  • Recruits a viable pool of candidates through timely posting of positions, applicable advertising, and sourcing.
  • Assesses and evaluates candidates through various tools including checking references and conducting background checks and completing all necessary documentation and pre-hire paperwork to prepare offer to the best fit candidate.
  • Assists Recruiters on various day-to-day tasks and projects.
  • Extends job offers to candidates and acts as an information source throughout the onboarding process. Completes all post-offer paperwork and functions to complete onboarding process.
  • Provides back up coverage for Human Resources Front Desk and assists with rollover calls routinely.
  • Act as a positive representative of the HR team through timely and accurate communication.
  • Administers HR functions while ensuring both internal and external compliance standards are met including hospital-specific regulations, employment laws and internal equity measures with compensation and hiring practices.
  • Assists with other HR duties and projects as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft products, and HRIS systems.
  • Good organizational/time management skills, with the ability to work productively in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to effectively interact and work collaboratively with both and internal customers, and to represent Mercy in a positive manner and as the employer of choice.
  • Excellent customer service skills.  This includes interacting well both via phone and face to face.
  • Must be comfortable speaking and presenting publicly to small or large groups.
  • Familiarity with a variety of practices, concepts, and procedures in the field.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills.
  • Professional Experience– Required vs. Preferred
  • One-year Human Resources experience required.
  • Health care experience desirable.
  • Education-Required vs. Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Human Resources, Business or relevant degree preferred.
