Scribe / Reader Support (Part-time)

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Position responsibilities include:

  • Read class content directly to a student with a disability
  • Record answers that are verbally dictated by a student with a disability
  • Provide 1 on 1 support to a student in the classroom
  • Work is performed independently under the supervision of Accommodation Services
  • Strong oral reader with good command of the English language
  • Well-developed verbal skills and vocabulary

 

Scribe Responsibilities:

  • A scribe must write accurately, and at a reasonable speed. 
  • A scribe must write a correction if requested to do so by the candidate
  • A scribe must immediately refer any problems in communication
  • A scribe must not give answer to the student 
  • A scribe may at the student’s request, read back what has been recorded


Reader Responsibilities: 

1. A reader must read assignment or task accurately to the student
2.  A reader may only read the instructions of the task at hand and must not explain or clarify questions
3.  A reader may repeat the instructions of the assignment but only if the student requests the reader to do so


This individual might be required to write notes—both handwritten and typed.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in a classroom setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work.  Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.
