The Department of Pathology is seeking a Health Care Services Associate Director to oversee operational functions throughout the Department of Pathology. Serve as a member of the senior administrative staff for the Department. Work collaboratively with internal and external entities to assure timely, appropriate provision of laboratory services compliant with regulatory and service leadership standards. Monitors and addresses performance of staff to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and service excellence standards in all aspects of Pathology. This position is 100%-time position.

 

Duties to include:

  • Performs assigned human resource functions including strategic planning, interviewing, selection, and performance management. Benchmarks, develops, recommends, and reviews staffing models in conjunction with the CDA, the HR manager, and leadership staff throughout the department. Mentors and assists with professional development of leadership staff and others.
  • As requested, provides input to the CDA regarding financial analysis and budget planning.  Provides rationale for budget variances.  Assists with justification of capital and other equipment/space requests to optimize operations of department.
  • Instructs and instills in staff the principles of customer service.  In conjunction with the Quality Manager, responds to inquiries and complaints from internal and external constituents. Proactively pursues service excellence and role models service excellence consistently in both actions and in communication.
  • Develops and implements initiatives to design, monitor and improve productivity and efficiency of departmental operations.   Effectively uses laboratory and hospital information systems to complete work and to investigate and resolve problems and implement corrective actions. Collaborates with Pathology Informatics and HCIS staff to design, modify, and validate enhancements to the laboratory and hospital information systems to promote service delivery and enhance laboratory workflows. 
  • Collaborates with the departmental quality manager to maintain laboratory and accreditation standards. 
  • As requested, participates in the design, review, revision, and implementation of standard operating procedures within the department.
  • Collaborates with medical and nursing leadership across the organization to monitor, evaluate and modify laboratory services and laboratory service delivery to provide optimal services to support patient care and provider needs.
  • Serves as the primary Pathology operations lead during HICS events and other unusual situations such as expected and unexpected downtime of laboratory and/or hospital information systems. Takes proactive actions to identify and address issues in scope of responsibility.  Escalates issues to others as appropriate/necessary.  Develops, evaluates and revises departmental disaster management plans. 
  • Performs delegated role as a back-up for the CDA during planned/unplanned absences.    

Required and Desired Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is required.
  • 5 or more years of experience in health care or laboratory operations is required.
  • 5 or more years of recent experience directly supervising staff is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, and students is required.
  • Prior experience in an academic medical center is highly desired.
