ARNP Inpatient Team Leader, Orthopedic & Neurosurgery

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by the ARNP (Nurse Practitioner) who assists with provision of primary clinical care, education and direction of their respective program. The ARNP works in collaboration with a physician and other team members to provide care to patients and their families.
Job Duties
  • Participates and leads clinical improvement activities that are intended to improve clinical quality and contain costs for the organization and patient.
  • Maintains current knowledge regarding state and federal regulations impacting ARNP practice.
  • Supports nursing duties as needed to optimize team performance.
  • Demonstrates leadership of the health care team through teaching, coaching, and supporting to advance plan of care.
  • Initiates appropriate referrals and performs consultations.
  • Synthesizes data from a variety of sources to make clinical judgments and decisions about appropriate recommendations and treatments.
  • Assesses the needs of families and caregivers.
  • Assists with the management of the plan of care through the evaluation, modification, and documentation according to the patient's response to therapy, change in condition, and to therapeutic interventions to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Prescribes pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions in collaboration with the supervising physician.
  • Manages diagnostic tests through ordering, performing, interpreting, and supervising in the assessment process.
  • Performs and documents complete, system-focused, and/or symptom specific physical and psychosocial examination.
  • Manages and delegates tasks necessary for quality care.
  • Leads inpatient nursing team to coordinate care of a group of patients on the department.
Department Specific Duties
  • Acts as an agent for provider by evaluating, addressing and managing any medical issues of patients and reports actions to appropriate provider.
  • Partners with the Interdisciplinary Team to provide education and psychosocial support to patients and their care partners related to healthcare management.
  • Facilitates implementation of patient’s plan of care in collaboration with the providers and the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Facilitates the seamless transition of patients from the hospital to their discharge destination in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team, assists with accurate completion of AVS (After Visit Summary) instructions and completes medication reconciliations.
  • Completes timely and comprehensive documentation in EPIC EHR throughout the episode of care.
  • Provides a comprehensive hand-off report to the Shift Supervisor at end of shift.
  • Works as a change agent to promote best practices, improve patient care and quality and decrease cost to the organization.

Professional Experience
  • Proven experience in the evaluation and management of patients in specialty area.
  • Education sufficient to obtain required licensure.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • Currently licensed to practice as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of Iowa required.
  • Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required.  Employee must submit certification of completed training prior to start or transfer date.
Physical Demand Requirements
  • Medium: Exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10-15 lbs. of force frequently

Location: Mercy Medical Center - Cedar Rapids · Orthopedic & Neurosurgery
Schedule: Full Time, Day/Evening, 7am to 730pm three shifts per week
