Responsibilities

  1. Assist provider and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information preparing patient for examination, treatment and minor surgical procedures.
  2. Responsible for tracking system for follow-up appointments related to office visits, laboratory tests and procedures to regularly follow patients monitoring disease status.
  3. Schedule referrals for patients with specialist or outpatient as requested by the provider. Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing, including appropriate CPT/ICD-9 coding.
  4. Answer questions and provide teaching to patients and family members.
  5. Provide appropriate and timely documentation in the patient’s electronic health record using standardized workflows and processes.
  6. Provide information to appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. health department).
  7. Facilitate and support relationships between providers (e.g. within clinic, referring) and with ancillary services.
  8. Demonstrate the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
  9. Understand inpatient and outpatient specialty procedures. Responsible for compliance with precertification requirements
  10. Thoroughly understand anatomical impact (phases/stages, thresholds) for clinic specialty services including co-morbidities and influences impacting patient care and treatment.
  11. Thoroughly understand testing (lab and procedures) values and relationship to patient status with accountability to take next steps, as appropriate to scope and licensure.
  12. Be aware of what is happening in clinic/department and the organization by attending clinic/department meetings, reading emails and regularly checking information on the organization’s intranet site.
  13. Meet the department work schedule.
  14. Maintain compliance with CLIA, OSHA, Safety and Risk Management guidelines.
  15. Maintain compliance with Personnel policies and procedures.
  16. Monitor environmental conditions in order to secure protected health information.
  17. Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.
  18. Behave in a manner consistent with all Compliance and HIPAA policies and procedures.
  19. Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.   
  20. Balance team and individual responsibilities; be open and objective to other’s views; give and welcome feedback; contribute to positive team goals; and put the success of the team above own interests.
  21. Perform other duties as requested by Clinic Administrator to facilitate the smooth and effective operations of the office.

Qualifications

  1. Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nurses.
  2. Current license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa/Illinois for Registered Nurse.
  3. Previous clinical experience in a medical office preferred.
  4. Computer data entry experience
  5. BLS and Mandatory Reporter certification.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills.
  7. Strong computer skills.
  8. Ability to work as a team member.
  9. Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures
  10. Able to write, read, comprehend and speak fluent English.
  11. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
