University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Respiratory Specialty and Comprehensive Care Unit is seeking a Staff Nurse - Respiratory Specialty and Comprehensive Care Unit. Qualified candidates may be eligible for a minimum sign-on incentive of $5,000 based on years of experience!

The Respiratory Specialty and Comprehensive Care Unit is a 24-bed intermediate care unit that incorporates two different patient populations on one floor. Pulmonary care for adult patients with lung diseases and complex pulmonary problems including: COPD, obstructive sleep apnea, asthma, cystic fibrosis, slow-to-wean ventilator patients, neuro-muscular disorders, lung transplant and patients who need less than intensive care, but more care than provided on acute medical/surgical units. Palliative Care is also on this floor and consists of a wide range of diagnosis receiving symptom management and some that are receiving end of life care.

Schedule:

  • Day/Night rotating shifts or Straight Nights
  • 12-hour shifts
  • Rotating days off, every other weekend, every other holiday
  • Percent of Time: 90% - 36 Hours Per Week

Pay:

  • SEIU Pay Plan: https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/pay-plans/seiu-pay-plan
  • Pay Differentials: Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Premium pay for additional shifts greater than 4 hours. Inpatient differential of $2,250.00/yr.

Characteristic Duties of our Staff Nurses include but are not limited to:

  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response.
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions.

Education Required:

An AA Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a BA Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a MA Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.

Experience Required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
  • General computer skills are required

Certifications:

  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire
  • Current ACLS certification is desired.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • BA Degree in Nursing or MA Degree in Nursing is highly desired
  • If BA degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable
  • RN experience in hospice or palliative care is desired.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures
