Remote within Des Moines and/or Cedar Rapids. Travel to Data Centers as needed. 


Responsible for the requirements, design, install, administer, and optimization of enterprise wide Intel-based servers infrastructure servers and related components like Citrix XenApp and NetScaler’s to achieve high performance of the various business applications supported by tuning the servers as necessary.  This includes ensuring the availability of virtualization hosts, configuring all new implementations and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment.    Participates in consulting services, project management, operating system evaluation, system capacity and performance, configuration management, security, automated monitoring/alerting, disaster recovery, and establishment of enterprise standards.  Assists with the development of operational support documentation for the system hardware and software to be supported, monitored, and administered by the department.


System Administration 

  • Provides daily administration of all the Windows operating systems, virtual and Citrix environments including server admin, software & hardware support, device configuration & monitoring, troubleshooting and performance tuning. 
  • Responsible for system tuning and recommendations to maintain optimal enterprise server performance. 
  • Monitor usage and server storage capacities identifying future storage capacity needs and growth for all virtual and Citrix hardware and software.   
  • Acquires and maintains solid knowledge of UnityPoint Health processes like incident management, problem management, configuration management and change management processes  
  • Maintain a basic understanding of Networking and Networking concepts. 
  • Maintain procedures which document requirements for addition, deletion, or changes to participating systems. 
  • Define, document, and publish system standards and protocols, which specify the characteristics of enterprise virtual and physical servers. 
  • Perform quality assurance and change control functions on system changes / applications moving to production. 
  • Responsible for defining, executing and administering security procedures which protect applicable data for the enterprise storage and backup systems. 
  • Responsible for physical hardware installation of virtual and Citrix systems and application software on supported platforms. 
  • Responsible for application installation on virtual & Citrix servers when appropriate resources are not available.   
  • Provide 24x7 night and weekend on-call coverage as scheduled. Responsible for rapid response during department operating hours to aid all customers. 
  • Provide status reports on a regular basis for assigned active projects. 
  • Responsible for requesting all vendor quotes, SOW’s and other contracts.   
  • Responsible for meeting and coordinating meetings with vendors. 
  • Provides training and technical guidance to Associate System Engineers. 
  • Participates in establishing and preparing departmental SMART goals, standards, procedures, and instructions, which contribute to the effectiveness of the department in accordance with organizational goals



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or Information Systems required.
  • Equivalent education and work experience will be accepted only if previous experience applies to specific systems.


  • Minimum of two years’ experience in Windows server administration is required.
  • Healthcare Experience preferred

  • VMware, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (formerly XexApp & Desktop), PowerShell, Dell, Lenovo and HP Intel Servers, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to work as a team member, creating and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Works independently under general supervision, takes initiative, keen attention to detail and possesses good organizational skills.
  • Aptitude for problem solving independently using internet search tools such as Google or opening support tickets with vendors before reaching out to team members for answers.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs independently, such as servers and storage hardware.
  • DCIM experience preferred.
