University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics department of Health Care Information Systems is seeking an Application Developer to be responsible for the design and/or modification of complex hospital clinical and anatomic application systems. Primary duties include workflow analysis, optimization, application build, testing and implementation. Other responsibilities include monitoring production issues, testing special updates, and system documentation. 

This position will support the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics’ Community Connect program which extends our Epic applications to regional hospitals and clinics.

The ideal candidate will have experience acting as a contact for the support, configuration and development of at least one enterprise application; experience working with end-users to define system requirements and understand business needs; ability to write technical specifications for complex integrated systems; and basic project management skills. All positions require use of providing some 24 x 7 on-call support. Travel to customer sites for sustained periods of time to support application implementation, upgrade, and or optimization may be required. The physical office location for this position can be either Des Moines, Iowa or Coralville, Iowa.

Pay Grade: 
Salary: $53,000 to commensurate – Paygrade 4B

Education Required
Bachelor’s in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related application development/support experience 

Required Qualifications:
•    Experience in the development and/or support of applications used by non-technical customers to support and enhance business processes, typically 3-5 years for an Application Developer role
•    Experience contributing to an integrated information system implementation cycle though areas such as design, workflow analysis, build, training, implementation, testing and support
•    Experience working with end-users to define system requirements, understand business needs and convert business requirements into functional/technical specifications for complex integrated systems build
•    Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with basic project management
•    Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical staff
•    Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment
•    Ability to provide some 24x7 on-call support
•    A valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety requirements

Desirable Qualifications: 
•    Experience supporting an Electronic Health Record (EHR) in an ambulatory or hospital setting
•    Experience with any of the following workflows: clinical pathology, anatomic pathology
•    Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with lab order build, specimen collection, results routing schemes
•    Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical staff on system implementation projects
•    Proven ability to write application test scripts
•    Experience contributing to the support, configuration, and development of at least one Epic-specific healthcare enterprise application
•    Epic certification related but not limited to the following: Beaker Anatomic Pathology, Beaker Clinical Pathology, Order Transmittal
