UnityPoint Health has an excellent opportunity for a Biomedical Equipment Technician with advancement opportunities for leadership located at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA.  This position provides biomedical services for general and advanced patient care equipment at St. Luke's Hospital along with area affiliated Rural Hospitals and Clinics. This position has direct report responsibilities to the Site Manager or designated Supervisor.   • Coordinates and performs both scheduled and emergency equipment repairs of general and advanced medical devices as assigned.
  • Performs scheduled Preventive Maintenance of general and advanced medical devices.
  • Provides education to clinical staff as to proper use and operation of medical equipment.
  • Responsible for coordination and performance of medical equipment project management assignments generally associated with either system relocations or new facility additions/renovations.
  • Must have general knowledge and understanding of PC’s and required computer/network operating systems.
  • Accurate and timely documentation in CMMS database to assure integrity of performance history.
  • Communicates and updates clinical staff as to medical equipment service, maintenance events, and device status to assure best delivery of care.
  • Keep up to date with state/federal regulatory and accrediting agency guidelines for healthcare.
  • Adhere to all UnityPoint Health personnel policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Behave in a manner consistent with all Corporate Compliance policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to assigned on-call rotations and follows required availability and reporting to site as identified in the Clinical Engineering On-Call policy


  • Minimum 0-5 years of related experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Directly related experience will determine technician’s level. BMET I or II.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair complex electronic devices down to the component or module level working on various systems in the hospital. E.g. EKG Machines, Respirators, Defibrillators, Ventilators, Surgical Equipment, Patient Monitoring, etc.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to decipher electronic schematics and understand service maintenance manuals.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
  • Strong knowledge of electronic and electro-mechanical devices.

  • Associate degree from an accredited Biomedical Electronics Technology program, Electronic Engineering Technology or related Technical program, or Military Biomedical certification.
