Overview

Centralized Scheduling Specialist supports customer relations, physician relations, patient care and hospital business services by performing quality functions for scheduling and registering services.  This position participates in the marketing of hospital services by working closely with the physician and their office staff.

 

This highly visible position must be aware of the importance and impact the position has on the hospital's public relations.  Positive human relations skills are necessary and required to be exhibited at all times. 

 

Coordinates procedure scheduling; supervises Radiology clerical staff; assists with record retrieval, patient reception, reports, and schedules; coordinates front office operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides timely, courteous scheduling services.
  • Is highly competent and works well with centralized scheduling system.
  • Ensures accurate registration and verification of patient information and updates patient information as appropriate, including pre-certification requirements.
  • Completes reservation of internal tests, services and classes.
  • Completes scheduling of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
  • Answers telephones, questions and refers patient calls to appropriate people.
  • Works very closely with physician's office staff when scheduling procedures.
  • Attends and participates in scheduled department meetings.
  • Is aware of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (eg. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of department or hospital administrative staff.
  • Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the hospital’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.
  • Interacts with other hospital departments providing appropriate registrations as needed. 

Qualifications

Education

  • Must have high school diploma. 

Qualification/Experience

  • Must demonstrate an aptitude and interest in registration and scheduling functions. 
  • Experience with computer system is required. 
  • Medical terminology is required. 
  • Must possess excellent communication skills. 
  • Must read, write and speak fluent English.
