The Lead Radiographer is responsible for working within the established guidelines of the Imaging Services as assigned. The Lead is expected to understand and support the Mission and Vision of St. Luke's Hospital. As a professional the Lead Radiographer is responsible for carrying out the philosophy and objectives established by the hospital Board of Directors and the Management Team. Foremost among these responsibilities are strictly adhering to detail in the technical performance of radiology procedures, solving practical and analytical problems, resolving conflict, and implementing constructive change.

  1. Provides leadership as part of the unit management team.
  2. Coordinates and implements department staff development/orientation.
  3. Serves as a resource to other health team members in department.
  4. Works collaboratively with other departments to facilitate cost-effective health care.
  5. Assumes patient care assignments based on needs.
  6. Works with medical staff for cost-effective supplies and equipment acquisition.
  7. Facilitates program development.


  1. Acts as liason to Manager or Director.
  2. Coordinates orientation and competency review.
  3. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and provides day to day leadership.
  4. Provides consultation to other departments as needed.
  5. Works with leadership team and staff in other departments to enhance communication and services between departments.
  6. Monitors compliance to Radiation Safety for departments.
  7. Works with cardiac information systems.
  8. Assesses the needs of staff and department and provides appropriate direction.
  9. Provides strong leadership role in product evaluation, acquisition and overseeing specialized inventory.
  10. Is knowledgeable of resources utilization implication for the hospital.
  11. Performs performance improvement activities related to program.
  12. Oversees specialized inventory of department.
  13. Conducts education and training as needed.
  14. Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally-funded health care programs regarding fraud, waste and abuse.
  15. Implements measures to promote a safe environment for patients, families and staff.
  16. Assists in creating a positive work environment that promotes productivity.
  17. Performs other duties as deemed necessary to meet hospital's mission and vision.


  • Must be ARRT certified or eligible.
  • Must have current permit issued by the Iowa Department of Public Health.
  • Must have a minimum of two years of experience in the assigned modality with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Experience in computer systems is desirable.
