University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics has an opening for a Senior/Project Manager to support the project portfolio with Hospital Administration.  These positions will be appointed through the Health Care Project Management Office (PMO) within the department of Health Care Information Systems (HCIS).  The overarching goal of PMO is to provide Project Management support for the University of Iowa Health Care community, through the application of the Project Management Institute global standard methodology, for delivering projects within budget, on schedule, according to scope, and in a way that best contributes to accomplishing the University of Iowa Health Care strategic plan. 

 

This position will provide operations project management and responsibilities.  The role will be assigned to support the development, implementation and ongoing operational support of high priority institutional projects, designed to enhance and improve inpatient, outpatient, surgical, staffing, and quality operational aspects within the health care system.  The operational responsibility for this position will be to initially support basic project management skills to ensure project goals and objectives are met within the established requirements; preparing project status reports, resource management, conducting/facilitating project meetings, ensuring the project progress on schedule, addressing constraints, mitigating risks and challenges in a timely manner.

 

Advanced project management skills associated with this position will require ongoing working knowledge of operational aspects of the projects, ability to work with a range of stakeholders including staff-level employees, department-level leadership, hospital administration, medical & clinical staff, division leadership and technical users.  It will be the responsibility of the project manager to analyze project requirements, develop implementation strategies and provide guidance and oversight throughout the program/project management life cycle, serving as change agents for the organization, working effectively in a diverse environment in conjunction with the project leaders and executive sponsors.

 

  • Baseline performance metrics and value performance improvement opportunities.
  • Facilitate, defining/documenting critical path activities for operational initiatives.
  • Works with operational leaders to execute / validate draft analysis, propose / test process improvements, and develop action plans.
  • Participate and/or act as primary contributor/owner of specified critical path and work activities to advance the project objectives and deliverables.
  • Gather progress against action plans and expected benefit realization.
  • Engage key stakeholders, align executive leadership, and manage issues as appropriate
  • Work with complex health care operations activities requiring extensive systems knowledge to ensure optimal workflow and process efficiencies to drive quality outcomes.

Salary: $57,000 to $85,000 – 4B (Project Manager); $70,000 to commensurate – 5B (Senior Project Manager)

Education Required

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Business or Management, Public Health, Health Administration or a related Health Industry discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience Requirements

  • Project Management experience, typically 1-3 years for Project Manager; typically 3-5 years for Senior Project Manager, implementing and managing multiple medium to large-scale programs/projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and lead operations project in health care or other relevant industry.
  • Proficiency in key performance improvement techniques including current state assessment, KPI development, and workflow mapping / redesign
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a strong focus on customer service utilizing established PMO Program/Project Management methodology, processes, procedures, tools and techniques to improve quality measures and metrics.
  • Ability to lead process improvement activities to make enhancement recommendations and implement workflow and business process changes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with all levels of management and project team members.
  • Demonstrated strong project management, organizational and facilitation skills.
  • Experience leading teams and people to successfully implement change utilizing a positive, can-do attitude to inspire others.
  • Proficient in Project Management tools such as MS Project, MS Word, MS Excel, MS SharePoint, MS Visio and MS PowerPoint.
  • Experience with the concept of the PMBOK (Project Management Book of Knowledge) and applying project management principles, methodology & processes, tools & techniques to managing projects.
  • Ability to simultaneously lead multiple small to large-scale projects.

Desired Qualifications

  • Project Management experience within a health care delivery setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage as individual contributor in successful project management and implementation.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with educational and certification credentials combined with Project Management experience in an operational health care industry.
  • A Master's degree in Business Administration, Business or Management, Public Health, Health Administration or a related Health Industry discipline.
  • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP), Master Certificate in Project Management, Public Heath Certification or Informatics Certificate, Prince2, AIPM Certified Practicing Project Manager (CPPM), ITILv3, Lean, Agile and/or Six Sigma certification.
