The UI Heart and Vascular Center is seeking a full-time (100%) Health Care Services Manager/Assistant Department Director to lead and manage clinical and operational functions for the UI Heart and Vascular Center’s (HVC) Non-Invasive Diagnostic Imaging, Cardiac Rehab, Patient Access, and Procedural Scheduling units.at both main hospital and Iowa River Landing (IRL) to assure that health services, medical care, medical/health professions education, and associated research programs are delivered effectively and efficiently.

Duties to include:
  • Oversee daily operations for Non-Invasive Diagnostic Imaging (EKG Lab, Cardiac/Echo Labs, and Stress Testing, Nuclear Testing), Cardiac Rehab (Phase I and II), Patient Access (Registration, Check-in/out), and Procedural Scheduling units at both main hospital and Iowa River Landing (IRL).
  • Identify trends and determine QA priorities. Develop quality standards. Allocate resources to meet quality and productivity expectation. Develop, implement and monitor plans to enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Identify needs, trends, and forecasts to provide quality patient care within designated programs.
  • Review activities and make recommendations for change in, or better utilization of existing facilities, services and staff. Project future needs and facilitate transition(s) as department continues to grow and diversify. Address and resolve operational concerns/issues.  
  • In conjunction with cardiovascular service line leadership, work to develop and implement long-and short-range strategic plans. Serve as Accountable Leader for action plans.
  • Participate in the selection of new staff; develop, train, and manage the performance of all staff; conduct annual performance reviews; participate in all performance management related matters and recommend/implement disciplinary action in timely manner; oversee and approve all work schedules per established policies, protocols, guidelines, contracts, etc.
  • Provide clinical education to develop staff competency. Oversee clinical education activities and agreements with other educational institutions. Ensure staff compliances are applicable, complete and current. Partner with University academic colleagues/programs for undergraduate clinical rotations, education and preceptor assignments in imaging units.  
  • Monitor and measure patient and staff satisfaction levels, including but not limited to scores, indicators. Compile data and submit appropriate reports. Investigate fluctuations in scores, resolve issues resulting in decrease in satisfaction levels and/or patient access matters.  Serve as a liaison for clinical care activities.  Ability to develop adequate staffing plans and ensure appropriate and safe coverage.
  • Prepare and/or assist in the development of annual unit budgets; provide projections and recommendations. Manage financial data and monitor budget to meet goals. Resolve budget discrepancies.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of legislation and regulatory bodies affecting health care and clinical practices. Ensure all regulatory policies, protocols, guidelines and/or practices for are followed and/or met.
  • Collaborate with appropriate Medicine and Surgical providers to manage and support programmatic research efforts.
  • Prepare administrative reports and make recommendations on major equipment purchases; review and approve expenditures in conjunction with HVC leadership.
  • Participate in and serve as contact for facility projects including those related to services, teaching, administrative, and research areas as directed.
  • Assist in the negotiation, preparation and ongoing monitoring of fiscal activities related to contracts between UI Health Care and external agencies as directed.
  • Serve as administrative liaison with other University, UI Health Care, Carver College of Medicine, and other constituencies internal and external as directed.
  • Provide managerial cross-coverage for other HVC units in the absence of primary manager.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education Requirement:

Master’s degree in Health Administration, Public Health or Business Administration required.

Experience Requirement:

  • Minimum 5 years experience working in a hospital or medical practice setting.
  • Clinical leadership, administrative experience and/or successful completion of a 2-year administrative fellowship (academic medical setting preferred).
  • Job-related experience with, and commitment to, promoting diversity in the work/academic environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and skills shown by successfully implementing new programs/services, ability to work independently and to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. 
  • Demonstrated experience functioning successfully within multidisciplinary setting; excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in computer software and applications including spreadsheet and database applications.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Proficiency in utilizing and/or clinical understanding of Epic. 
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
