Within the Joint Office for Compliance (JOC), the Compliance Specialist will field and conduct investigations relative to billing and coding compliance issues.  Origin of the issues may include the JOC anonymous hotline and internal and/or external generated matters.  Issues may include patient complaints and internal staff concerns.  This individual will be relied upon to manage several operational projects or phases of larger scope projects, along with conducting investigations and/or performing auditing activities.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Fields and conducts audits and investigations based upon inquiries sent through the JOC hotline, and other internal and/or external sources.
  • Evaluates potential issues and determines appropriate next steps, including triaging and prioritizing inquiries.
  • Conducts and coordinates investigations.
  • Manages multiple inquiries simultaneously, including monitoring and tracking investigations, turnaround time, audit progression, communication and adherence to deadlines.
  • Performs or assists with auditing that may include ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS coding, DRG assignment, accurate billing, appropriate documentation and coverage issues.  
  • Facilitates project meetings; develops and distributes meeting agendas and minutes to project members.
  • Collaborates with leadership to facilitate success of projects. 
  • Maintains productive work relationships while considering multiple perspectives and using effective conflict resolution practices.
  • Adjusts to and develops self-awareness to prepare for new or changing assignments, processes, people, and priorities as organizational needs dictate.
  • Demonstrates sincere concern, ownership and responsibility of a customer’s concern, even if the cause of the problem lies elsewhere.
