This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by ensuring service development, personnel management and resource allocation and control in order to support and enhance patient care.  Under the direction of the Sr. Vice President Patient Care Services and CNO and in conjunction with the Radiologists, the Director is responsible for the services provided within the hospital and the imaging center for the Diagnostic, Ultrasound, CT Scan, PET/CT, MRI and Nuclear Medicine departments.

Job Specific Duties/Essential Functions
  • Ensure that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed. Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates an ongoing service program, which ensures quality patient programs consistent with the hospital mission.
  • Monitors compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policy for patient services, personnel management, environmental radiologic safety.
  • Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions using Lean Six Sigma methodology with follow through and communication.
  • Actively participates in service, departmental, and hospital wide committees, as assigned, providing ongoing communication to those one represents.
  • Participates in departmental project management, assuming a leadership role as warranted order to equitably assume these responsibilities with peer directors.
  • Coaches direct reports providing feedback, constructive critique of work, facilitating the development of their problem-solving and decision-making skills, and documents their job performance annually.
  • Prepares annual operating budget and monitors ongoing budget as reflected in accurate and objective variance analysis.
  • Develops, prioritizes, and defends a capital equipment budget in collaboration with the service's medical chair and hospital vice president.
  • Maintains a charging and billing system to ensure that correct charges are being made and distributed.
  • Manages human resources (HR) to ensure quality services and promote positive employee relations.
  • Effectively communicates departmental, organizational, and industrial information to staff.
  • Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization's overall mission.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
  • Helps develop, implement, and evaluate a radiation safety program, which ensures ALARA for both staff and patients.  
  • Serves as a radiology resource to nurse managers and department managers within and across service lines.
  • Develops and implements radiology policies and protocols in collaboration with the Radiology medical chair and hospital vice president.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to supervise employees in medical imaging department utilizing management skills

Professional Experience– Required vs. Preferred
  • Five years of administrative experience in Radiologic Technology required.

Education-Required vs. Preferred
  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Health or Health Administration, or Business Administration required.
  • Masters degree preferred

Licensure, Certification, Registration - Required vs. Preferred
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technology registration preferred
