Coding and Charge Entry Supervisor

Job Information:

Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa is seeking a dynamic Certified Medical Coder (AAPC or AHIMA) to join our team supervising the Coding and Charge Entry staff and process. This individual will directly manage the coding and charge entry team and oversee, evaluate and monitor ICD/CPT coding, auditing, correcting, and other related functions. This individual will be responsible for on-going evaluation of staff effectiveness and for providing additional staff training as needed. The Supervisor position is high profile requiring direct interaction with medical providers and clinical staff as well as the coding and charge entry team.  

Other duties include but are not limited to:
  • Will perform coding responsibilities in addition to supervision responsibilities
  • Work with medical providers and staff in all clinical departments to ensure timely receipt of encounter forms so as to meet established posting lag requirements
  • Work with medical providers and staff in all clinical departments to assist with IDC10 and CPT coding questions.
  • Monitor the gathering, auditing, and correcting of clinic fee tickets
  • Work with physicians to resolve coding issues and assist our certified coding staff creating and presenting semi-annual provider audit reports
  • Responsible for improving coding processes aimed specifically at reducing the claim denials charged to the coding department
  • Maintain a hands-on knowledge of the practice management system including the EHR module and be knowledgeable with EPIC in respect to patient information and documentation for correct coding
  • Attends educational offerings as necessary to stay current with medical coding changes
  • Prepare materials and conduct monthly department staff meetings
  • Assists Patient Account Representative Supervisor with coding appeals as required. Provides supporting information and supplemental data as needed to achieve desired claim resolution outcome
  • Maintain positive staff relationships and conducts department business with commitment to the PCI Service Standards

The qualified candidate must be able to work well with others and possess excellent communication skills to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of clinic personnel, physicians, staff, and outside agencies.  Will be adept at carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws to include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing workload; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

The successful candidate will have at least three years of supervisory experience and three years’ experience as a Certified Medical Coder.  Must also demonstrate the analytical skills necessary to identify opportunities for improvement, utilizing reports, observations or feedback from others.  Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word is a requirement. Experience with Intergy or eClinicalWorks practice management software is a plus.
