The Department of Pathology at the University of Iowa Health Care is currently accepting applications for a Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Scientist opening. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified individuals seeking to work in a fast paced learning environment within our Microbiology Laboratory.

This position will be filled as Medical Lab Technician (MLT) or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) based on the selected candidates qualifications. The beginning salary for the Medical Lab Technician (MLT) is $41,970 and the beginning salary for the Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) is $45,372.

This position is second shift, 2:45 PM – 11:15 PM, Monday-Friday.

MLT Duties: Provide waived and moderately complex clinical lab testing and analysis on biological specimens to provide information used in the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of disease. Utilize a variety of procedures that may involve numerous detailed tests and techniques that require the use of professional judgment.

MLS Duties: Utilizing a variety of procedures involving highly complex analytical lab test methodology and techniques, perform quantitative and qualitative clinical laboratory analysis on biological specimens such as blood, tissue and body fluids. These procedures will utilize a variety of procedures, many involving numerous highly complex tests and techniques that require the use of professional judgment. Provide technical expertise and information used to diagnose, prevent or treat disease.
