Workers Compensation Specialist - Part Time

Job Information:

Part-time benefits eligible. 28 hours per week. Work schedule Monday - Friday, 9am - 3pm.
This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by providing assistance to employees in filing and processing Worker's Compensation documentation. This position is also responsible for settling worker's compensation claims and mediations.

Job Specific Duties/Essential Functions
  • Completes all required OSHA and state reporting requirements for workers compensation and collaborates with TPA for First Report of Injury for State Industrial Commissioner filings.
  • Maintains the Midas Reporting System with daily review of new claims and processing the claims into Health Tracking. Approves workers compensation bills and maintains/posts all bills to appropriate files.
  • Corresponds and processes incident (Workers Compensation Claims) for TPA. Assists with reserving of all files.
  • Assists our TPA in assigning legal representation and keeps updated on all legal filings and processes. Updates General Counsel and Director, Human Resources to ensure a positive resolution of all claims.
  • Gathers and maintains all medical records for work place injuries/conditions.
  • Assigns employee to light duty work within the Hospital or other assigned departments.
  • Participates in monthly Safety Committee meetings, and is actively involved with Environment of Care and Emergency Management Committees.
  • Audits and approves monthly Worker's Compensation and Employee Health Center billings for payment.
  • Arranges appropriate medical appointments for employees who sustain work place injuries or conditions.
  • Handles ADA accommodation requests.
  • Assists with Short Term and Long Term Disability claims filing.
  • Backs up Leave Administrator in assisting employees with filing for FMLA/MLOA, entering appropriate leave related data, and sending certification to Managers and Directors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, as well as organize and prioritize a demanding workload.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Power Point as well as HRIS systems.
  • Communicate with compassion and assist employees during difficult times.
  • Ability to communicate with physicians, department heads and employees.

Professional Experience– Required vs. Preferred
  • 1+ years’ experience in worker's compensation claims administration required. Two years general human resource experience required.

Education-Required vs. Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Human Resources, business or related field or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree is required.
