This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing all required procedures in the cardiovascular department, operating specialized equipment including but not limited to the x-ray equipment within the cardiac catheterization laboratory and computer systems. Functions as the expert in all areas and works as a resource for patients, staff and providers.
Job Duties

Operates all radiographic equipment utilizing the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle, maintaining a safe radiological environment.

Prepares and operates other equipment related to cardiac catheterization & angiography; i.e., ISTAT machine, AVOXimeter, Hemochron, etc.

Maintains radiographic equipment and x-ray rooms in proper working condition, reporting malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisory personnel.

Provides direct patient care ensuring the quality and continuity of patient care.

Contributes to the efficient and fiscally responsible operation of the department.

Functions as a member of the team, including hemodynamic monitoring and assisting with physicians during procedures.

Assists in maintaining adequate supply inventory for the department, notifies appropriate person when stock is low.

Enters patient charges and reviews for accuracy if assigned.

Participates in on-call schedule, which includes taking primary call phone.

Schedule cases as needed.

Pulls venous and arterial lines.

Assists with orientation and preceptorship for new personnel.
Department Specific Duties

EP Specific:
-
Provides retraction of tissue and organs for optimal visualization with regard to tissue type, appropriate retraction instrument and/or technique.

Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist with hemostasis.

Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes as directed by the surgeon (sutures, staples, etc.).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-
Must meet CV Rad Tech Level I criteria.
-
Basic knowledge of cardiac catheterization/cardiovascular procedures and equipment is required.

Competent with information and computer systems.
-
Must obtain and maintain sedation and EKG competency annually.

Must take Medication Administration test at time of hire/transfer.

Must be competent in the job roles of Drive, Scribe and Monitor.

Has completed a peer education topic with CV staff.

Able to provide two peer/physician letters of recommendation.
Professional Experience
-
Two years' of Cath/IR/EP lab experience required, or one or more certifications in Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology/Electrophysiology/Vascular modalities required. Verification of certification must be presented to Manager and kept on file in the department.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
-
Iowa Permit to Practice required. American Registry of Radiologic Technology required, certification as Cardiovascular Technologist preferred.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS), certification in accordance with American Heart Association required.

Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification in accordance with American Heart Association required or obtain within 6 months of hire.

Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse and Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
