This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by recruiting, training, scheduling and placing quality volunteers in volunteer positions.  This creates competent volunteers who support the various departments and staff within Mercy Medical Center. These services are offered with a positive, caring spirit in support of the mission of Mercy Medical Center and the Sisters of Mercy.
 
Job Duties
  • Works closely with Manager, Volunteer Services in recruiting volunteers to support and enhance all Mercy volunteer programs.
  • Develops, reviews and implements volunteer placement and maintenance strategies to ensure appropriate volunteer services that promote the healing ministry of Mercy Medical Center.
  • Coordinates and conducts volunteer interviews and orientation.
  • Place volunteers in designated positions, and ensures proper maintenance and retention of quality volunteers.
  • Works in a team environment and collaborates with a variety of professionals.
  • Consistently communicates with appropriate individuals or groups to ensure volunteer needs are being met.
  • Maintains the volunteer database and records in accordance with Mercy Medical Center and department policies and all other applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists with coordinating reward and recognition efforts to ensure a positive volunteer experience.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships that solicit constructive feedback and recognition from Mercy departments, and volunteers to ensure success of the department.
  • Effectively works with Manager to respond to inquiries on programs.
  • Promotes patient/provider/student/volunteer confidentiality.
  • Prepares volunteer related data and statistical reports.
  • Integrates the volunteer service program with other community service programs of the hospital.
  • Acts as the main liaison to the Kirkwood Workplace Learning Connection Program and Four Oaks.
  • Participates, when deemed appropriate, in volunteer related meetings, e.g. volunteer assignment group meetings, SHIIP meetings, volunteer associations, etc.

  • Knowledge of the philosophy and practices of volunteerism.
  • Strong clerical, computer, communication and organizational skills.
  • Quick learner, outgoing and friendly, able to accept responsibility.
  • Must display initiative, quality conscious, cooperative attitude, and a good sense of humor.
  • Detail orientated, able to handle multiple tasks in a highly interruptible atmosphere.
  • Displays exceptional guest relations skills, and serves as a positive image in the volunteer department in action, demeanor and speech.
Professional Experience
  • Minimum three years of healthcare experience in a related area preferred.
  • Previous experience working with volunteers preferred.
Education
  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience required.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • None required
