UWECI is seeking a relationship-oriented and community-focused individual to join our team as a Community Resource & Volunteer Engagement Specialist for Linn County! This individual will build relationships with community partners, volunteers, and local officials to create a county-wide culture of volunteerism and make it easy for members of our community to get involved. This role is responsible for placing volunteers with opportunities that fit their interests, implementing mission-driven programs and strategies, and effectively communicating the importance of volunteering in Eastern Iowa. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Community Resource & Volunteer Engagement.

PRIMARY PURPOSE 

 

 

 

Create a county-wide culture of volunteerism where it is easy for a community member to accelerate change to improve their community through the development and implementation of strategies that effectively and efficiently leverage community resources and volunteerism.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

 

Promote and Support Community Volunteerism:

  • Build a culture of volunteerism
  • Recruit and place volunteers internally and with local organizations
  • Implement volunteer recognition and retention efforts
  • Track and report volunteer outputs and outcomes
  • Promote Volunteer Now, volunteer engagement programs, and United Way initiatives
  • Design and implement accessible and inclusive opportunities

Assist in developing and managing resources to support community and volunteer activities:

  • Assist with grant applications and proposals for local county efforts and volunteerism
  • Assist with preparing the annual budget and operate within the approved budget
  • Work with local county and city entities to build collaborations to maximize resources
  • Keep current with federal and state funding and other compliance issues

Implement mission-driven volunteer programs and strategies

  • Identify and develop volunteer opportunities in line with United Way’s mission and county needs
  • Work collaboratively with EMA, city and county officials to establish and maintain an Emergency Volunteer Center

Build and foster relationships to accelerate change and community improvement:

Engage and collaborate with the following groups:

  • Nonprofit agencies, county coalitions, groups, and city entities
  • Communities of faith, retiree, social and service groups
  • Schools, institutions, and businesses
  • Lead Volunteer Engagement Advisory Council for the county
