Overview

Leepfrog Technologies, Inc. provides its CourseLeaf software to more than 430 of the nation’s most academically complex colleges and universities to manage their academic catalogs, curriculum, section scheduling, registration, and syllabi management.

 

The Chief Financial Officer’s (CFO) primary responsibility is to plan, implement, manage, and run all of the finance activities of Leepfrog. This includes business planning, budgeting, forecasting, and negotiations. As part of an executive management team, the CFO will have interaction with various members of a company, both senior and junior. Specifically, the CFO will work closely with the owners to maintain the financial health of the organization. 

Leadership/Supervising Duties:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and management of the finance and accounting team. This includes recruiting, interviewing, and hiring staff as required.
  • Mentor and develop employees, manage work allocation, train, conduct performance evaluations, and build an effective and efficient team dynamic.
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of team’s work by providing guidance as needed (for example: billing accuracy and collections).
  • Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls, SOX compliance, and financial procedures.

Strategic Planning Duties:

  • Act as a partner by engaging and providing strategic recommendations to the CEO/president and members of the executive management team.
  • Assess, evaluate, and provide insight and recommendations on the financial performance of the organization. Engage ownership to develop short-term and long-term plans, projections, and budgets.
  • Create and establish yearly financial objectives that align with Leepfrog’s plan for growth and expansion. Identify potential risks.
  • Assist in establishing operational strategies by evaluating trends, reviewing critical measurements, and reviewing production activity. Participate in pivotal decisions as they relate to strategic initiatives and operational models. Identify, develop, and execute analysis of business initiatives, product launches, and/or new service offerings.
  • Establish and develop relationships with Frogger management and external partners and stakeholders. This includes obtaining and maintaining investor relationships and partnership compliance as well as selecting and engaging consultants, auditors, and investors.

Day-to-day Duties:

  • Manage the processes for financial forecasting and budgeting, and oversee the preparation of all financial reporting: weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually as needed. This includes general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts, and overhead cost allocation.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial budgeting reports including monthly profit and loss by division, forecast vs. budget by division, and weekly cash flow by division.
  • Manage cash flow planning process and ensure funds availability. Perform account analysis and reconciliations.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place to be compliant with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting. This includes preparing and filing regulatory documents.
  • Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all local, state, and federal tax returns.
  • Explore new investment opportunities and provide recommendations on potential returns and risks.
  • Research, evaluate, enhance, and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools, and control systems to improve the efficiency of the department. Amend and revise process documentation to adapt to cultural changes or legislative regulations.
  • Maintain outstanding banking relationships and strategic alliances with vendors and business partners. Represent the company to banks, financial partners, institutions, investors, public auditors, and officials.
  • Remain current on audit best practices as well as state, federal, and local laws regarding company operations.
  • Oversee weekly cash management and AP Department, approve large payables, sign checks, authorize large wires and ACHs.
  • Oversee payroll preparation, submittal, and reconciliation.
  • Maintain outstanding customer service for Leepfrog employees by responding timely, thoughtfully, and accurately to employee-submitted questions. Use discretion to ensure employee satisfaction and trust. 
  • Accurately maintain files.
  • Adhere to prescribed deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

An MBA or CPA is highly desirable with at least 10 years experience in finance/accounting and managing a team, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Previous experience with SaaS company is highly desirable. Applicants must be able to provide examples of past decisions made with sound judgment. Must be able to respectfully handle highly confidential information. Knowledge and understanding of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance, and SEC reporting. Previous experience coordinating with IT staff to manage, upgrade, and/or implement accounting systems is desirable. Experience working with external auditors, internal controls, and compliance-related issues. The ideal candidate must be able to operate in an entrepreneurial, small, software company with the ability to adjust as needed.

Physical Requirements

The CFO will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. The CFO may be located in a busy, open area office, and will be faced with regular interruptions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
