Backstop is seeking an intellectually curious and results oriented Data Acquisition Operations Manager to join our Fairfield, Iowa team. This people leader will have two primary accountabilities- ensuring both the quality and quantity of fund data that is captured in our robust database.

Core Responsibilities- Team Performance:
  • Lead a high-performance data acquisition team of 7 individuals and aiding them with daily management, career development, and regular check-ins
  • Clearly communicate job expectations to data acquisition team
  • Develop and maintain a dashboard of key team performance metrics
  • Monitor, appraise, and review work performed by the team ensuring that targets are met or exceeded
  • Improve results by identifying areas for improvement and continuously iterating on best practices for the team
  • Foster an environment of knowledge sharing, transforming individual expertise into organizational knowledge
Core Responsibilities- Database Quality:
  • Create a funnel to pipeline new external fund data contributors into the database 
  • Conduct research using industry publications and proprietary resources 
  • Develop presentation on database value to prospective external fund data contributors
  • Analyze and catalogue fund strategy summaries
  • Audit inaugural data upload to ensure data integrity 
Qualifications & Experience:
  • General understanding of hedge funds, investment strategies, and securities
  • Interested in how financial markets function and the factors that drive stock prices higher or lower
  • Some understanding of very basic statistics; normal distribution, standard deviation, correlation
  • Numbers minded with strong analytical skills
  • Experience in managing, coaching, and overseeing teams for more than 5 years
  • Proficiency in developing departmental budgets
  • Familiarity with data programs and procedures
  • Specialized attention to detail
