Foundation for the Iowa City Community School District

Core Responsibilities:  The Executive Director leads and serves as the public face of the Foundation for the Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD). The Executive Director ensures that the Foundation’s financial and human resources are well managed and that strategic objectives are met on an ongoing basis. The incumbent provides strategic leadership in collaboration with the Board of Directors; coordinates program planning and management; advances and maintains fundraising and donor relations; advances and maintains strategic partnerships; maintains control of the finances, and facilitates effective functioning of the Board of Directors

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Defining vision and strategies for the Foundation
    • Ensuring alignment of strategy with School District strategic plans and emerging priorities
    • Advancing and reporting on progress with the Foundation’s Strategic Plan
  • Program Planning and Management
    • Developing and executing plans for delivering measurable results in line with strategy
    • Managing staff and volunteers who coordinate educational enrichment events with K-12 students
  • Fundraising and Donor Relations
    • Developing and executing on fundraising plans in line with Foundation strategy to grow assets under management
    • Stewarding relationships with current donors
    • Developing strategies for furthering relationships with new or potential donors
  • Strategic Partnerships
    • Building and maintaining strong relationships with ICCSD leaders and staff
    • Maintaining and expanding partnerships with local businesses and community organizations to expand fundraising and programming opportunities
  • Financial Leadership
    • Overseeing the Foundation’s finances to balance revenues and expenses in line with established financial targets
    • Providing regular reports and updates to the Board regarding the Foundation’s financials
  • Board Facilitation
    • Assisting to attract and develop a strong board of directors
    • Leveraging the professional expertise of board members
    • Managing effective board meetings and interactions

Work Relationships:  This position reports to the President of the Foundation’s Board of Directors and has direct supervisory responsibilities for the Foundation’s Associate Director and Business Director, and future positions as deemed necessary.  The Executive Director will interact with members of the Board of Directors, leadership and staff in the ICCSD, and with many different community leaders and business professionals. 

Required Competencies: The Executive Director must have a passion for education and educational programming; demonstrated strength in achieving results through fundraising; experience connecting to donors and advancing new donor relationships; prior success creating and building networks of community partners; and experience leading and managing employees. Competency with MS Excel and other office productivity programs also required.

Preferred Education and Professional Experience:  A bachelor's degree with three years of professional fundraising experience is preferred; consideration will be given to an individual’s combination of education and related experience. Creativity in execution of events and fundraising materials preferred along with familiarity with fundraising software, Donor Perfect software experience a plus.
