Systems Unlimited, Inc. is looking for the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for our agency. For over 50 years, Systems Unlimited has partnered with people who have disabilities and mental health needs to advance their personal independence, dignity, and growth. We aim to set the standard for services that remove barriers to independence and inspire the people we serve to achieve personal success. 

Over the last five decades, Systems has served thousands of people and assisted families in supporting their loved ones. The agency has been widely recognized by city governments, the State of Iowa, and the United States Senate as a leader and pioneer in the field of home and community-based services.  

The CEO is responsible for leading the organization in all areas and reports directly to the Board of Directors. They will provide strategic leadership for the agency by working with other executives to establish long-range goals, plans and policies, and strategies.

The CEO represents the agency professionally and leads the agency’s nine hundred staff in pursuit of the organization’s mission, vision, and core values. The CEO is the face of the agency and must adhere to the highest level of ethical conduct. 

As a CEO at Systems, you will:

General

  • Serve as the main point of contact for the agency.
  • Supervise executive leadership. 

Strategic Management

  • Provide leadership and oversight in setting the strategic direction of the organization.
  • Collaborate with management to establish plans for operational infrastructure, finances, and processes including personnel.
  • Consider current industry trends, competitors, and emerging opportunities when formulating strategy.
  • Ensure Systems maintains high-quality services in order to meet the service needs of those served by the agency.

Financial Management

  • Drive the agency to achieve and surpass business goals and objectives.       
  • Spearhead the development, communication, and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.
  • Develop and recommend short-term and long-term goals to the Board while overseeing the preparation of annual budgets for the agency.
  • Steward and develop financial resources of the agency in a manner that ensures stability and accountability.

Resource Generation

  • Represent and promote the agency in the community through participation in organizations and groups.
  • Oversee marketing and fundraising and assist with completion of grant applications as opportunities arise.
  • Ensure acknowledgment of donations, memorials, and bequests from donors.

Effective Communication

  • Generate credence and loyalty in others by being available to staff, demonstrating personal accountability for actions impacting the organization, and acting ethically and with integrity in all matters involving the organization.
  • Participate in board meetings and present all relevant information to inform and update the Board on programs, personnel, and relevant legislative developments at local, state, and federal levels. 
  • Keep the Board of Directors informed of regulatory compliance and survey outcomes.
  • Promote Board of Director participation and membership. 
  • Assist with new board member training and orientation and coordinate annual Board Retreat for the presentation of strategic plans
  • Establish credibility throughout the organization, with the Board of Directors, and the community as an effective developer of solutions to business problems.                

Program Management

  • Ensure the agency has adequate human, physical, and financial resources to provide high-quality programs and services. 
  • Work closely with senior executives to ensure compliance with all regulatory and licensing bodies and necessary accreditations are maintained.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulations: research, comprehend, implement, and enforce regulations set forth by applicable governing bodies. 
  • Ensure continuous maintenance of high-quality program services appropriate to the needs of the individuals served by the agency.

Other responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Board of Directors. 

Qualifications

  • A four-year degree from a college or university accredited through the Department of Education, preferably in a related field
  • A minimum of 8 years of related management experience, including a minimum of 4 years of senior management experience, and a minimum of 5 years of required supervisory experience
  • A relevant Master’s may substitute for 2 years of management experience
  • A valid driver's license and a driving record that is acceptable from a risk management perspective
