This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by providing support to the Medical Staff so they may carry out their responsibilities to ensure the quality of care provided by licensed independent practitioners at Mercy.

Job Duties
  • Sets department strategic goals and achieves them.
  • Supervises department personnel in a manner that supports team productivity and job satisfaction.
  • Coordinates and maintains clinical contracts necessary for the operation of the department and in keeping with hospital policy.
  • Oversees all aspects of the office’s daily work to ensure the smooth flow of operations.
  • Keeps leadership appropriately informed of operations.
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents, and injuries.
  • Serves as primary contact with Paramount Health Options to ensure efficient flow of credentialing and privileging of physicians and allied health.
  • Supports the Officers and Committee Chairs of the Medical Staff in the planning and delivery of their committee meetings. Oversees the maintenance of meeting minutes and records, including ballot records and membership dues records.
  • As directed by the Medical Executive Committee (MEC) provides the Governing Body with Medical Staff meeting minutes, practitioner files, and other action items for approval.
  • Ensures the timely review of Medical Staff and Medical Staff Office policies and procedures providing research and subject matter expertise as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with Paramount Health Options ensures the timely updating of privileging forms, including application and reappointment forms, and delineations of privileges forms.
  • Oversees and produces correspondence at the request of the officers of the Medical Staff, the Chair of the Peer Review Committee, and/or the hospital executive team.
  • Maintains the hospital EMTALA Call Schedule to ensure CMS regulatory compliance.
  • Oversees the onboarding of newly privileged physicians and allied health practitioners.
  • Oversees the onboarding and monitoring of residents and medical students through the Medical Staff process. Including liaising with the Cedar Rapids Medical Education Foundation (CRMEF).
  • Provides administrative oversight of compliance to regulatory standards including CMS, accrediting organizations, and State regulatory agencies as they relate to Medical Staff credentialing, privileging and self-governance.
  • Serves as an organizational resource regarding Medical Staff and Allied Health Practitioner credentialing, privileging, and registration; Medical Staff committees and departments; policies; bylaws; and rules & regulations.
  • Collaborates with Physician Relations in order to give physicians and allied health the best work experience.
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Professional Experience
  • Experience working with physicians in a hospital setting required.
  • Experience supervising staff is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a hospital Medical Staff Office preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree in health care related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • Certified Professional Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Staff Management (CPMSM) preferred.
Physical Demand Requirements
  • Light: Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently
