Creative Director

Cornell College

Mount Vernon, IA Executive & Management / Marketing & Media
Cornell College's Office of Marketing and Communications is searching for an individual to fill the role of Creative Director and lead designer for the college.  In this role you will manage the brand identity for college as a whole and the key departments of Admission, Financial Aid, Alumni Relations, Advancement, and Athletics.

The Office of Marketing and Communications is a small, tight-knit, and highly productive group for our size that appreciates one another's talents and supports one another's work initiatives.  We're looking for someone who brings creative energy and excellence in design and self-scheduling to the team. This isn't a college marketing department where you'll re-create the same brochure year after year, we're excited to innovate and we have a unique challenge and opportunity in marketing One Course At A Time to prospective students.

Responsibilities for this position include:
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software.
  • Willingness to work within existing brand and design standards, and the voice to suggest when it's time to break out and try something new.
  • High standards for detail, accuracy, and editorial style.
  • Proven ability to communicate and develop positive campus relationships that allow you to navigate multiple client demands with diplomacy and tact.
  • The ability to develop and manage positive vendor relationships while negotiating optimal pricing.
  • Management of multiple projects, use project tracking software to keep stakeholders aware of project status, and meet required deadlines.
  • A desire to become fluent in Cornell College culture, traditions, and style.
  • Photography and photo editing experience is desired, but not required.
Sample materials and projects for this position include:
  • Creation of a body of print materials for the Admission team that include print mailers, viewbooks, fliers, and invitations to campus events that spans a 12 month recruiting cycle.
  • Creation of visual elements to illustrate challenging concepts such as One Course At A Time, student support services, career services, and cost/value propositions that would be used in print, presentations, email, and web content.
  • Guiding branding concepts and creation of campaign materials, new college programs and offices, and creating sub-brand standards for the athletic or advancement offices.
  • Contributing to project plans for the college magazine and directing photo and/or video shoots with outside vendors.
