Position Summary: 
  • The Assistant Director of Engineering Services will manage and monitor the daily and regulatory management of Engineering Service's operations;
  • Primary responsibilities includes maintaining and operating capital budgets, developing, revising and monitoring compliance with building maintenance and repair program involving HVAC, electrical, utilities and grounds, labor productivity, preventative and corrective maintenance and repair, minor project work, energy sustainability  and overall regulatory compliance;
  • This position provides analysis and recommendations regarding the functional assessment of UIHC facility systems and ensures alignment with the UIHC strategic plan; 
  • Works cooperatively with UIHC Capital Management and UI Design and Construction to ensure large capital projects are designed, constructed and completed within the UIHC recommended standards;
  • This position will report to the Director of Engineering Services and serves as department representative on assigned committees;
  • Occasionally must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina in assisting with maintenance situations;
  • On-call and ability to respond to emergencies is required.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Typically 7-10 years in building systems management including HVAC, electrical, or mechanical;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Typically 5 or more years of supervisory experience including talent acquisition and performance management; 
  • Demonstrated project management with a focus on developing relationship and partnerships;
  • Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work environment;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet University’s Fleet Safety Program.
Desirable Qualifications:     
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing priorities to achieve operational and capital budgets;
  • Demonstrated knowledge to ensure regulatory compliance with The Joint Commission, NFPA, OSHA , and other health care codes;
  • Demonstrated experience in creating a positive work environment that demonstrates  a focus on service excellence principles;
  • Demonstrated experience managing a computerized maintenance management software system to create efficient and corrective and preventative maintenance operations;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of overall building engineering including HVAC, electrical,  preventative and corrective maintenance and repair;
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement to improve a hospital’s physical environment and infrastructure;
  • Experience in implementation of energy conservation strategies.
